RE: Gerardo Nunez's guitar on Andand... (in reply to kominak)
Could be... during that time period he often used the marin that he got for a few bucks to promote it on encuentro. On the title picture of the CD andando...he sits with his conde blanca.
Hmm.. I think he used his Conde blanca on the album because these Marin guitars are extremely bright. But I don´t know it for sure. Its just a guess.

That's what struck me first - it's not very bright. The attack is not so percussive and let the "color" of the tone let through - I like it for now :) I was wondering if he's not playing a negra, but probably not.

Yes I'm pretty sure he a played a Marvi in the encuentro. I tried one recently and it was one of the loudest guitars I've ever heard but very well balanced too - really a cannon.

Antonio Marin? He played a Marvi Negra on Encuentro, not?
Don´t you read a thread before writing comments? Its written in mine that he played Marvi in the encuentro video. In older threads we talked a lot about that.
There is a story behind the reason why he used that guitar in the encuntro video and not his conde that he played before the video and nowadays.
The storie is, he told Wolfgang Suttner, a german guitar maker that he plays one of his model in the encuentro video if he gets it for 1000Euros. W.Suttner is not very known on the market and that could have been a great chance for him to get known in the business. But he was too proud and said no to that deal. He wanted the normal price of around 5k. So Marvi said yes to that deal and gave Gerardo a pro Model for low costs, for the commercial. Otherwise Gerardo would have played his conde in that video. That encuntro video is one of the reasons why Marvi got so famous. Otherwise we would talk about Suttner guitars now. The Marvi guitars are nice, yes. Very bright, loud, sharp, clear sound and good settings. But they are heavy like a rock. Maybe 5kilos ? It felt like that when I tested one.
Gerardo said later in an interview that he liked that Marvi guitar but he wants to move on stage an that is not posible with that heavy Marvi model. So he switched back to his Conde blanca.

thanks for clarifying that Doit, i've been wondering why Marvi's guitars weren't more popular and in fact i was planning on buying one in the future...of course i'd want to check first hand before making any decision though...but i'm very impressed with the sound it creates...

The guitar gerardo played was a stock A26 conde from felipe V address, 1995. I played that guitar years ago. At the time he had black trebles on. the action was kind of high, and he had a new tap plate on top of an old one that he had gone through already, so a very thick golpeador which I think affected the brightness of the tone a bit. He recorded Calima with this guitar too I think. Around 2004 or so he retired that guitar, or rather it disappeared, and he now uses a newer Conde from Atocha address.
