I'll tell you, this may be weird, but my 1964 Conde Hermanos sounds EXACTLY like that. The Conde is extremely light, maybe 2 lbs., and has a very distinct, delicate sound. It is a small instrument. Almost a 'compressed' sound with quite a low end. Not a profound midrange like my '99 Conde which has the usual 'Conde sound. I know this does not help, but I thought that I would offer this unusual insight.

Thanks, this is the sort of response I was hoping for since buying a 1940's Barbero is not realistic...
Looking for options to get this sort of sound -
I already own a Salvador Castillo '07, which is quite good and I have heard sounds like a Conde... but I am assuming it's more in-line with your '99 as it sounds nothing like this Barbero.
Did not even consider an older Conde... from your description, it sounds exactly like what I am seeking... thanks again!
I'd also would love to hear more people weigh in on this... Was sort of thinking a 50's Ramirez might be the way to go??
BTW - I have 3 Moro cd's with him playing this Barbero... the sound quality is much better... a very impressive guitar + solid playing too....
