I think I've played my oddest gig for a while. On Friday night I was booked to play at a "mini festival" in a tiny village way up in the mountains of the Axaquia called Canaillas de aceituno. After crawling up the the very curvy and narrow mountain road I nearly crashed into a herd of goats before arriving. Canaillas is a tiny town indeed and I accidentally drove all the way through it before I realised that I had been through the centre. The "mini festival" turned out to be nothing more than a large patio filled with most of the towns residents and a large number of English people living in the area. The line up was "los fresones and pimientito" which I thought sounded like a musical salad.
I didnt realise that "los fresones" was a code name for 70s group "the strawbs" and many foreign residents were there to see some nostalia in the mountains. I met Blue Weaver, the keyboard player who turned out to have also been a member of the bee gees for 7 years and had written some of their hits. No surprise that his web site is Saturdaynightweaver.com. Our set list went something along the lines of Graniana, buleria, living in a world of fools, staying alive, alegrias.......
It was actually a brilliant night. It was great to hear those hits played with the original pianist. Blue weaver is a very talented musician and I havent had so much fun playing live for ages The whole village joined in the drunken singing and palmas and it was a great atmosphere. I didnt get any photos though but Im hoping Blue will post a video of some of it.

Pimientito, I'm not sure how you've done it, but you've managed to make it sound like a very good evening. It must be because the music was good and everyone had a good time. ¡Ole tú!

That sounds so great! And I think Norman is right, if people enjoyed the music, that's what counts.
My funniest so far was a little community gig where I followed a children's percussion workshop. The children didn't want to stop playing their instruments and they decided to play with me. The rumba was quite good, but they said it was hard to keep with the bulerias

sounds like a cool surreal event though
I always wanted to arrange ABBA's "Take a chance on me" into something flamenco. Maybe Alegrias, but Id have to lengthen a few notes to make it cover 12 beats.

Now there is a challenge! Move over Tomatito, lets give this to the advanced players (although I wouldnt be surprised if Ricardo already had a version) I found a Bossa nova version of "take a chance on me" here ......truly awful though but you can see how it could become a rumba
I think the lyric "if you change your mind, then i'm next in line, honey i'm still free, take a chance on me" fits the compas of "Tiriti tran tran tran" in the Alegria.
However I think that from there you are going to be doing a great diservice both to the flamenco and ABBA loving world...... (still im curious to hear your effort)
Here is the techno version which kind of has the flamenco tempo. ps. This may seem off topic but if the gypsy kings can cover "hotel california" and "my way" then frankly anything is possible.
