Seville SouthSide (Polygono Sur)

I've been trying to get hold of a film by this title. Set on a housing estate on the outskirts of Seville it concentrates on the flamenco side of life on this estate. I've contacted the distributors direct who want 150euros for a copy!! Has anyone seen it or does anyone know where I might be able to get a copy?

Thanks

Sam

I saw it when I was in Sevilla two summers ago. I guess you would probably enjoy it... it does give a glimpse of gitano life, there's a good amount of flamenco. Very poor people, set in a dingy neighborhood, a very poor place. We would call it "projects" here in the States. I don't remember that much about it. One of my teachers at the Fundacion Cristina Heeren was openly dismissive about it, though, saying it was ridiculous to think that good flamenco would come from the Poligino Sur. A bit snobby of her--I don't know how much stock to put in what she said.

Poligono Sur is a great dvd. I got my copy from El Flamenco Vive in Madrid. They have a website and do mail order. I think it cost about E20. Karenanne

It is not "good" flamenco which comes from that sort of place, just real flamenco.

Mine was off deflamenco.com at 20 euros. It's under the Spanish title Poligono Sur. It's interesting although if she'd chosen a slightly more 'fly on the wall' route instead of choreographing some awkward first-time acting, it would be more convincing. It's put me right off Spanish men though, apart from Diego Amador.

Yes, most of those guys weren't very good looking... except for Diego, eh? :) But it was neat the interesting way the guitar player didn't use a capo. He would play a bulerias por medio and barre at the 2nd fret instead of using a capo. Awkward, but he did it well.

Thanks everyone for your help. I found Polygono Sur at both the websites mentioned. Do you guys all know each other or something?

Some of us have met up in the UK, Spain and the US but we mostly hang out here when we have nothing better to do... like practise
