Jose Riveras negra
Hi all, I want to buy a second-hand 13 year old negra by Jose Riveras. Haven't found any info on the internet, but the owner of the guitar says this luthier owns a small shop in Spain. Any recommendation on relatively unknown luthiers? Any advice at all? This is my first step up from a Rodriguez C1-M
I was recently offered a Jose Riveras negra. I am hoping that the person trying to sell you this guitar is not the same person from Fremont that wanted me to buy his guitar.
After reviewing the guitar first hand, I found it to be terrible for the asking price. The African blackwood back is nice, but there is a crack by where the soundport is located. The guitar volume was loud, but the tone was blah. The action on the guitar was also way too high. I had a hard time doing a bar chord at the first fret. The nut seems to be made out of ebony and badly glued on. I am surprise this didn't show up in the photos. You have to see it in person to believe. I tried playing a rasgueado on this guitar and it did not sound flamenco at all. This guitar is pretty much strictly classical. Also there is no label in the guitar, leaving me to doubt if Jose Riveras even exist. He's supposedly a luthier from Granada. The seller tried convincing me to buy the guitar by printing out his own label with Jose Riveras name.
The wood on this guitar is premium grade stuff, but to me it's just a poorly built guitar. I have played guitars in the $200-300 range that has better playability and sounds better.
If you are looking at a different guitar than the one i posted. Just disregard what I said.
I'm in the same boat. I just ordered a Francisco Navarro blanca recently. Can't give you a definitive review on it yet since I haven't actually played the guitar. If you do a forum search for Francisco Navarro, you'll find that most of the forum members here rave about his guitar. A student model will run you about $900.
I was kind of wondering if this forum was a giant scam trying to get people to buy Navarros because so many people rave about them...
Are you really insinuating that the members of this forum are some sort of Francisco Navarro marketing scam?
Your post is either a deliberate insult or a frail attempt at 'humour'.
Yes, Francisco Navarro guitars are very well regarded by a number of Foro members but many other maker's guitars are equally appreciated.
More than one scam has been exposed on this site in the past to universal derision - search for Andalusian guitar postings.
If you took some time to explore the breadth and depth of information and activities available on this site before posting your baseless opinion I would really appreciate it
My son still uses a C1m for classical stuff by the way
I was curious about the Navarro's. I was kind of wondering if this forum was a giant scam
Yeah, thanks for that - having dealt with a number of legal threats relating to negative (truthful) comments about certain guitars and suppliers, it's always refreshing to see someone think that a forum of nearly 4000 members, going for all these years, is a shill for a Mexican guitar maker

I'm careful about advice on forums. I didn't mean for anyone to take it personally. It was not personal, and I apologize if it came off that way.
