This is my first post on this forum, what a fantastic site. Up to now I have found the answers to all my questions using the forum search. But now I am stumped as I am not a great transcriber. I have been playing Flamenco for nearly two years after twenty odd years playing rock and pop on electric. My wife dances and the last two years we have been out to Jerez for the flamenco festival and had lessons. She is working from the EL BAILE FLAMENCA DVD series and I have been learning the guitar parts. Currently Tarantos. I have most of it down but I'm stuck working out the chords leading into the remate. I think its the copla part of the song. After the subida I hope some one can help with this. I can't find a format/transcription og any Tarantos. I have subscibed to Jason's lessons but no Tarantos. Any way sorry for long post salud

Tarantos is one of the most advanced and difficult structures to accompany, the guitarist juggling the "free" cante with the solid driving 2 beat rhythm.
I am not sure WHICH remate you might mean, there are many, or could be. The compas that involves supidas usually relates closely to Tientos/tangos transitions. So you may want to start with that concept and simply transpose what you may know from A phrygian to the key of F#. Often it is that simple, but secretly disguised somehow by the aire of the toque.
When you say "copla" part of the song, perhaps you mean the letra of Taranto? There are some fancy things going on there that are standard. Do you mean the answers to the lines of verse that you do with dancer?
Check the cante accompaniment thread. I think around page 5 or so we did a taranto freely. YOu can see if any of that makes sense, then you have to put it in compas. A tall order I know.

Hi Ricardo, many thanks for your reply. Its difficult to explain, but here is a youtube link to the actual music. The part in question is from 3;06 through 3;45. Every time I think I've nailed it I hear something else and it throws me A point in the right direction would be much appreciated regards Steve

Yeah that is exactly the spot I thought as I said above. If you check as I said the cante accomp thread you hear the same melody and guitar riffs but done free style. The standard way to do it in compas is as you hear here. Jason went and gave the chord structure, which is the same free or in rhythm. It gets really stretched out when you do it in this slow compas of 2. The melody moves from D7-G, and the guitar and dancers answer together a melody or riff that goes to D major. The notes are on the 5th string and 4th string mainly. The next part goes D7-G but you can skip the G and go for the E7-A remate. ETC.
Once again it is all in the cante accomp thread. Let me find the link for you. Ok, check my post half way down then Jason Mcguire's response. Later you can practice yourself, the guitar free cante was uploaded on the page before this.

Is one of the dancers in this video your wife? I'm asking because it was shot in Sweden. Are you from here too? Nice to see that thee is some flamenco activity i Mölndal.

Thankyou very much Ricardo. This is very helpfull, also the link to the cante thread. I could'nt find it before. I think I have it sorted now. For some reason it was the E7 I could not get, just could'nt hear it. But it makes perfect sense and is now obvious, ....DOH! BTW I had some of your online lessons from your website, must be a year or so ago now. Thought it was cool that it was you who answered. cheers Steve

Hi mrMagenta, No my wife is not one of the dancers, nor are we from Sweden. Sorry to disappoint. . I live on a small island in the Atlantic called St.Mary's. 32 miles off the south west coast of England. I used this clip to show what part I was stuck on as this is the exact audio that my wifes teacher uses to choreograph the Tarantos routine. I thought it would be good to play what she is used to hearing untill we are both comfortable with it and then start embellishing. regards Steve
