I'm not one of those "mean" Scots that wants England to get beat, so I'll be rootin' for them...but on the other hand I have many American friends on this forum too...
Being pragmatic...it would be truly shameful if England had to lose, since Football is only a minority interest in the USA...
But America is a great sporting nation and we don't know how much they've come on in the last few years...
So in that way it's EVEN MORE stressful for England and the team's supporters than playing Brazil or Germany!
Nail biting stuff!
Add to that the current White House/Anti British (Petroleum) element...no matter WHAT the result is...a lot of folk are going to be angry!
I can't imagine the USA winning. If it does it's only because of the imported talent that make up the team. BTW I didn't know we had a soccer team and never hear about any soccer games on local and national news.
Not locally--just boxing, baseball and NASCAR at the moment. You can watch anything you want on cable but even there you might have to pay extra for soccer or a sports package that includes it. I thought it was supposed to be catching on over here and where are all the soccer moms who vote in national elections--lol?
Ron, We're not angry at Britain, we're pissed at an international corporation called BP. If you can call it pissed, we're mostly laying over on our backs watching this oil leak video feed and being complacent like dumb Americans.
Many of us grew up playing soccer, more and more all the time. We've only had a few generations of soccer, but in a few more we will be a force to reckon with. The mid 1970's was when the AYSO got on it's feet and started to attract kids. ( American Youth Soccer Organization) So we need another generation or two for the culture to get more solid. For a country with the amount of contact withe the international soccer world we're not doing so bad. America is a sleeper cell of soccer terrorists as you'all will soon see.
If you go into a bar or restaurant in a Latin community the TV station will be set on one of the World Cup games. As the country becomes more Latin, South American, South Asian and African soccer will become more mainstream. The tipping point where it supplants the big three may not happen for a while. It may never, but soccer will gain in popularity and our teams will become stronger.
Laugh now while you still can...........'cause in a few years we are going to feed you your zamboomabas through your noses.
JA JAJAJAJA !
I'll also add if you want to now why I think this, the most popular civic sports improvements to parks and cities now is to build soccer fields. Forget about professional development, if you go to the soccer parks in America it's where all the Brazilians hang out and play together mixed with the American kids. Either the Brazilans will get worse or the Americans will get better. I'm betting on better. Another generation that grows up rubbing elbows with the Brazilians we will be hot stuff.
USA is playing greate football lately...didnt they win the last confederations cup ?
They are no pushovers, i think they one of the dark horses of the tournament
come to think of it, noone in this tournament is going to be a pushover...except maybe new zeeland, i feel sorry for them...because australia used to be them a few years ago...they play against country tribes most of the qualifiying beat them by 15 - 0, get a false sense of security of where they are and then bang all the sudden have to play real soccer countryes with players who have their own soccer boots and dont have to hunt for their dinner
I say the will prohibit these Vuvuzelas soon. The tv companies are complaining, the whole world is complaining. I bet these Vuvuzelas will not sound through the whole tournament. They can use them in a formula 1 race, there it would fit but please not in a football game which has its own acoustic atmosphere. After all the players are complaining they cant speak to each other
No i mean they can prohibit the use of it in a stadium.
yeah i know, but they all bought it to use them in stadium they have to take them away from millions of people at the door of the stadium. don't know if they will do that
Germany killed us...but i am glad, we deserved it, it could have been worst ...they should either learn a lesson or get their as kicked again..
either rise to the challenge or go home, i was very dissapointed by our performance, that defence was shoking..
Germany attack is freaking good...they didnt miss many
the red card was a litlle over the top, should have been a yellow IMO ...we have one player that can score and now he cant play in the next game which we need to win to have a chance to stay
its make or brake in the next one, hopefully we have learned a good lesson from this and can bounce back, if not we deserve to go home
Honestly, when the game started, i was a little scared in the first 5 minutes, because the Aussies played a completely different style than they usually play (normally they play very defensive) and they attacked immediately, so i thought maybe Germany could be shocked and couldn't handle it, but after 5 minutes we had our old Aussies again, so no problem
Honestly, when the game started, i was a little scared in the first 5 minutes
lol yeah thats was the best 5 minutes of my life
@Pimientito
HAHAHA thats brilliant USA wins 1 -1 !!!
fu*k it Australia wins 0 - 4
but i understand what they kind of trying to say...a draw with England is kind of like a win for Usa...same as a draw with Germany would have been for Australia
The US must be getting a lot better at soccer. The Baca Juniors world-class team from Argentina just finished playing three US teams and was beaten all three times. Two of the teams were US pro teams and one was the semi pro team from Portland Oregon. Portland is soccer crazy and is getting a US pro team next year.
I don’t know much about the game, but may have to learn
