Youtube - Flash gripe
Ever notice how when people (live)link flash video the volume is always all over the place?
It annoys me that I'm constantly fiddling with the volume. Most of the time it's finding a volume low enough to not get the **** startled out of me, or let the neighbours know what kind of dumb/perverted nonsense I view. Then I have to turn it up because I can't hear anything... which means I'll likely forget to lower the volume again and my neighbours will be wondering either a) "where the hell does this guy get his music tastes from?" or, b) "what the hell is he doing to that poor donkey, and is that a midget I hear?"
Adobe/Macromedia should develop a volume normalisation/compression into its Flash player. Or youtube should make volume normalisation a part of it's conversion process.
I agree its annoying...but also! **** the neighbours and what they think!! unless of course you're being an inconvenience to them....(but i imagine your just using the neighbours for some humour here.)

When the adverts come on there's a noticeable shift in volume.
yeah thats infuriating!!!

I'm surprised TV manufacturers haven't included a -10db on remote controls yet.
I'm assuming the advertising companies wouldn't have that.
I don't think it's coincidence that the ads are louder than the programmes and I also don't think its to wake you up in case you dozed off during your fave show!

Um... humour... yeah... That's what I meant! Yeah!
I think you might be thinking about falling asleep during someone else's favourite show. If you're falling asleep during your own favourite, you might have boring tastes and you might want to consider spicing things up a bit, ya know?
My stereo receiver has a "compression" setting that allows to prevent the volume from being too loud... except it never really works right because some things are just too quiet (e.g. listening to Pink Floyd, you really have to crank it) and then when a loud song or show comes on... BOOM!
