Fretlight?

One of my RSS feeds pointed to a gadget article about this. The billed it as Guitar Hero with real guitars.

It's a Fender electric knock-off guitar, with a USB port.

The neck has LEDs all throughout at each string at each fret and when you connect it to your PC with their software, it uses the LEDs to "teach" you.

It looks interesting... but it looks like they also charge for songs ($2.99 each?).

And the biggest flaws I see, is that:

It looks like the USB is only for the lights. MIDI functionality would have made this a cool product.

I tried reading about the software, but it's really non-descriptive. Being able to import tabs or midi would be great. But if they plan on using a track library as their real revenue source it's unlikely.

Again, there's no indication about creating your own stuff and sharing it, like maybe people sharing lessons and whatnot...

When I think about how most people learn the electric guitar, this seems a not bad idea. But its' all contingent upon the software....

I also don't think this is an entirely new concept. I seem to recall someone else having a similar product (but not as nice) at one time.

Any thoughts or opinions?
