seeking info on Carlos Isidro de Fro...

I saw this guitar advertised on Craigslist by this maker: Carlos Isidro de Frontera. Anyone else ever seen one? It looks pretty cool. looks like he worked in some place in spain that starts with a Ch......... in the photo the label is torn so I can't make it out. It says I think 195_ 3? The three is maybe an 8 that is faded, but I always hope for older.

I think I've heard of him. incredibly rare stuff, reminiscent of manuel de chico, except the pegs are typically done better by carlos.

Actually, I think brune might've sold one a year back or so, I overheard him talking with another customer about it. I didn't really have a chance to hear much about it, but perhaps it's a testament that a similarly priced Barbero is still in the shop, whereas the Carlos de frontera is most certainly sold.

Interesting maker. I believe he is noted for his use of the black and white rope purfling as well, but i can't recall off hand. it was either that or a wheat motif.

I think it was too early for wheat motif. That stuff is more for modern milquetoast weenies who covet Hausers and other sub-par instruments. Besides in those years in Spain the bread of the people was the Bimbo brand, so I think the wheat motif would have been less likely done than the "Bimbo Lunares" that resemble the American Wonderbread packaging.

Good point. As I said I couldn't recall off hand.

I actually called Bruné today and asked him about Carlos, but he didn't have much information that we haven't already covered. Apparently very little is known about him other than that he built guitars at some point and stopped abruptly and for no apparent reason. very strange

I'll have to look into it further but I suspect that would be a fantastic guitar!

I heard he quit building because he was an avid bicycle racer and he wanted to go to Italy to train full time. So he must have been quite young to have been a bike racer. Please ask Brune' for any information you can, thanks. Maybe he will do some research if it intrigues him enough. I'm still on the fence about it.
