M.S.A , yes it looks fancy. nice somehow. but you have to be careful with that peak!

Ricardo, then i guess this was discussed here already. didn't know that.
2 years ago.....and still not healed. then it must be a serious problem. what a pitty.
well i am sure that inside he is unhappy about it. how could he not be. but then he seams to be a postive person and make the best out of it, as you mentioned. thats good.
i just hope that he still really enjoys playing , giving concerts, etc. and not that he does it all for "us" or because he must, etc.
but i don't think so.
lets hope that somehow it will heal

Ha ha that's funny.

I was not trying to sound aPACOlyptic when I went off the demise of the Earth. However I think guitar making eventually has to change and in a 100 years classical and flamenco guitars will be different.

not sure what will be in 100 years.

i mean, people look for santos hernandez, etc. from nearly 100 years ago.
so maybe folks in 2110 look for Anders 2010 or you 2010.
you luthier guys should keep some of your TODAYS guitars and leave them to your children

RE: Guitarra de aluminio!!! (in reply to Arash

Well im 99% happy with my guitar. The only thing that i would like to have is equal tensions on all strings, because i think that is the reason number 1 why learning guitar is difficult (aside from sitting position, or musical aspects). Whenever you switch a string you have to adjust to a new tension. It requires different force, coordination,... depending on which strings you play. Aside from learning a technique, you have to additionally learn to adapt it to the instrument.
I also think that equal tension would lessen the risk of injury.

You can try to talk Gerardos injury nice as you want. Its still as you would cut of the wings of an eagle. The king is doomed. Thats horrible! Im so happy I saw him at his best several times. I saw his concert a few weeks ago with Deniz. And I was shocked the whole time because I knew another Gerardo Nunez. I hope he made enough money for his life and doesn´t suffer as Nino Miguel who turned into an alcoholic bum (for other reasons of course but ...).
I wish him the best luck that he heals up ...but it seems to be impossible as it looks like.

Sad that flamenco doesnt get much attention in the media. I would like to know about Gerardos injury, current state and future in detail. I hope someone interviews him about that.

PS. He should come over to germany and get some help from some excellent surgeons. Maybe he just used the help from such a gipsy miracle healer who tried to heal it with laying on of hands..

I am sad to hear that Nunez' injury is so severe.

I'm still looking forward to seeing him again this Saturday.

Wait a few weeks from now and you'll all see the nutty guitar l'm making for Jason. It's going to be weird, but the weirdness will have a purpose. I think it's cool to experiment and take things out, but I prefer to make traditional guitars. Only sometimes I get bored with the shape.........it will be Apacolyptic

I'm going to try to keep a few guitars to help with my retirement. And if I have kids they will be beaten until they submit to becoming doctors and lawyers. No guitar makers in my family after me!

Actually this could be the first time I have mentioned it. I actually bothers me a great deal, perhaps it is even more disturbing to ME then to him, I don't really know. I have a lot of dirt on lots of flamenco business that I don't like to bring up at all on the foro. Like paparazzi waiting for any greats to trip and fall or fail in anyway. I hate that ****, and had hoped by now he would have healed up or something so I need not discuss it. I did not want to be like Doit was saying, but he is sort of right.

I mean, it looks worse now then when I saw it this summer. Most new students had no clue cuz Gerardo's pulgar is still fine, but they never saw him play something like Trafalgar up close. I mean that Rondeña has a couple "fake" arps in it now that he used to rip through like a razor sharp ginsu. And one spot he STRUMMED instead of do the ripping arps. It really is scary. And if any of you are into it as much as me, you have tried to copy how gerardo is playing now, with index out and just m and a, and even strumming bulerias without i so much, just wrist....well, it is is horrific.

I don't want to email Gerardo about it, cuz it is obvious he is dealing with it somehow to keep performing. He was doing up to a hundred concerts a year...not as much now obviously. Two years ago he said he injured his HAND, implying the entire thing was out of commission. Now it seems to be something weird with index, or index and middle, but I don't really know anymore then the way it looks. The psychology of the problem also had affected his left hand accuracy I noticed in class too. The whole deal sucks big time.

Ricardo

RE: Guitarra de aluminio!!! (in reply to Arash

I hope he is not suffering from focal hand dystonia. It is quite common among musicians, typists, writers etc..or any activity with the hand that uses repetitive movements.

I know a little about it as my fathers hands have been severely effected by it. His problems began with only the 3rd finger on the right hand which seemed to cause sympathetic problems with the left. Over the next few years it effected all fingers on both hands. No pain just complete lack of control.

Completely frustrating and no cure. It has to do with the brain no longer connecting the right pathways. Movements that were part of your muscular memory no longer happen. It usually only effects certain activities. My fathers hands work fine doing anything else but when he picks up the guitar and tries to play something, Nothing works.

I am scared as research shows it is hereditary.

Gerardo seemed a little subdued when I saw him in December of 2008. I think he only had a few hours between his arrival from Spain and the concert. His im picado was good so I’m surprised to hear that this issue has gotten worse. Sorry to hear of this as he has been an icon to me since I became interested in flamenco again a few years ago.

RE: Guitarra de aluminio!!! (in reply to Ricardo

at least i hope that he had the best possible medical treatment.

i mean, not that it just doesn't heal and took so long just because he couldn't find the right Doc.

but i don't think so. i mean in spain they have also high-tech doctors just like in Germany or any other european country, and not just gypsy voodoo.

and Gerardo is not stupid or very poor or.....
i bet he has already consulted different Docs.

anyway, yes, enough paparrazi talk. maybe Gerardo doesn't like this stuff been discussed too much.

i just hope that some miracle happens and he solves the problem 100%

Well, I also dislike bad paparazzi photos and invented stories about famous people. I don´t watch this on TV and I don´t read these journals.

I meant just some clear explanations from himself about his health and an outlook of his musical future. And that because as me here are fans of him, we love his art and we suffer together with our idols of course. Hes a man of the public... I think he should inform his fans. I still cant believe... one of the top guitarist of today. Technically and innovative,... injured. Man thats hard ****.

This is a lower end Conde (EF4/EF5?) in the beach video. The audio is a studio recording 'Chiquitita' (Soleá por Bulerías) from the album 'The New School Of Flamenco Guitar'.

If you compare this guitar sound is quite different from the one at top of the thread, no phasing, it's just that it's the same man playing the same piece.
