Hi and introduction

Hey Folks,

Jut dropping a quick hello, I've been pretty active on UMGF, AGF and 13th fret in the past but am expanding my forum experiences to my new found love of Flamenco !

Terence

Hi Terence,

Welcome to the Foro. Would you like to tell us more about yourself (i.e where are you from, how long have you been playing, what have you been playing, etc).

You will find this forum very helpful. There are a lot very knowledgeable people here.

Have fun

Hi my fellow Londoner, Stu

My story; well it's rather a sh**gy dog one but I'll try to cut it short.

I started learning to play guitar back in Iran years ago (around 1994) but unfortunately I had to put it off for several reasons (i.e I couldn't find a good teacher, being a typical poor student I couldn't afford a decent instrument, I had to both study and work; so not enough time left for practicing and above all, I didn't know what real Flamenco was!)

I moved to London around 10 years ago and had to deal with the typical problems that one would face as an immigrant. After a few years, I thought that I should give it another go. I tried to learn things mainly based on JM books and DVDs but it really didn't do the trick for me. Also, my only opportunity to practice was in the evenings which I could not play loud enough because I didn't want to wake my new born baby up (back then sponges were not invented yet ). Soft playing to avoid making noise resulted in lack of strength in my right hand which took me a long time to overcome.
I looked for teachers in London and the only one I could find back then was Ramon Ruiz who was very far from where I lived (N. London).

Anyway, over a year ago I found a very knowledgeable teacher and started learning from him. To keep the noise down, I still have to practice using a piece of sponge which really upsets me but I religiously do my one-hour practices every night (when I am not working!).
Due to my very busy life I don't get enough time for Flamencoing(!) but I'm gearing up for when I am retired!!

It really takes time!

Thanks Argaith ,

I'm primarily a steel string fingerstyle player but have been branching out into other styles and I've been trying out a bit of Flamenco for the past couple of months.

I actually moved from London to Singapore around 2 years ago!

Hi Stu,

You got it right mate, my teacher is Francisco.

As for the baby, this time round I was looking for one with on/off switch; no luck

Take care.
