Hi Grisha!

I can only agree with all the others that there was a pleasure to hear and see, I have followed your videos for a while now and do not cease to be amazed.

Among other things it has been really interesting and educating for me to see you interpret older Flamenco's such as Montoya since i always wanted to hear a clean recording of them where you could really discern the details and as well see it being played on a clean image.

If i could make a request i would really love to see you play more Ramon Montoya pieces and maybe some Nino Richardo and Diego del Gastor?

This is from a Swedish classical guitar forum i thought could be fun for you to read i translated the posts.

Maybe you could write a few lines sometime when you feel you have the time. I think it would be really appreciated by the people over there .

quote:

I wonder what you know about this guitarist. Can not find much info about him online more than on his own home page.

Also good to wish Happy New Year!

quote:

Certainly a guy who can

You could find some of his videos when he is on YouTube

quote:

Despite the young age, he is one of the best ever. What is phenomenal is that he plays both classical and flamenco. His unusual dexterity gives him the ability to play all the repertoire written for these genres. Some say that his musical sense is not as good, but so often(probably out of envy)people say that about the great virtuosos - Ana Vidovic, Alexei Zimakov are a few examples. But the more think that Grisha's musicality is outstanding and it is almost no one who can master both flamenco and classical.

Sorry wasn't my intention to cut in line Arash! Of course you should have your River of Honey before anything else ;-)

IM sure half of the internet, and not only this forum, would be dying to hear such a piece by him. Some newer material and not Sabicas or the classic Paco. Libre pieces excluded, like that Vicente or Nunez video.
But in the end its his decision of course. So i will just lean back and wait, theres tons of stuff on youtube in the meantime .

Whoa! I see lots of videos that were not supposed to be up online.

The concert videos were shot in San Bruno on the 27th of March. It was not my best concert technically speaking as I brought home some stomach flu or something from Mexico. My hands were grabby as a result. Nevertheless, it had some good musical moments in it that at the end overcome the technical shortcomings.

The "dark" videos were shot at John Gilbert's house where I met the maestro. He is a great person and is in amazing shape for his age. Super nice man.

The vids were not supposed to be released, but I guess found their way on the internet. They was shot after I took a few days off from guitar after my concert in San Bruno. As a perfectionist, I hate it when something other than my approved performances show up on YouTube. I can't even pull myself together to watch them to see what's there.

I will be posting the GFA vids here shortly after my concert there on June 25th.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE NICE WORDS, FRIENDS!

I certainly sympathize with your wishes to have control over your intellectual property, and can imagine that it's unsettling to have private vids popping up all over the place against your wishes, but, regarding perfectionism, I'll quote your countryman, George Balanchine:

Perfect is boring!

The playing in these vids is splendid, perfect or not!

I just started Rio de Miel, and a slow version would be of tremendous help.
It is a very hard piece to play, and has been kicking my ass the last 2 days.
I don't see myself playing it in its entirety in a month but hope to have at least a quarter of something that sounds like it uploaded.

i agree with srshea.
the uploaders should first ask you before uploading them.

but those vids were PERFECT man.....watch them !

i specially liked to see you playing the Granaina from Vicente.
i think i never saw you playing something from Vicente? (or maybe i don't remember)

you played it absolutely brilliant and perfect ! with a lot of emotion , not a tiny bit less than vicente himself (imo)

@Rain, yes the piece is very difficult and you are not the only one whose ass is kicked while trying to learn it ..... but the composition and the falsetas are so cool that you could practice it a whole year without getting tired.

Thanx Arash, glad to know I'm not alone here taking a beaten. The Tremelo alone has me crying "What the hell did I get myself into"

i don't have tabs from it.
i basically try to learn bits and pieces through the videos i found.
thats also why a complete slow video from Grisha would be so cool ;-)

but i have some hand written notes (from Alan Faucher i think) which i personally don't use, because i can't read notes.
if that helps, i can send them to you.

I agree with all that - I'm just catching up on the Grisha videos and it's such a treat to hear such superbly musical playing! Ole y ole!

Grisha,
You have worked in so much aire and musicality into your playing. It's a real treat to listen to anything that makes it to youtube. To me, these recent videos are showing a musician with an acute artistic sense. You keep pushing on to new levels, even though you've been a superb player for a long time.. You've definitely GOT IT.

PS. Your guitar looks very special with its deep blue sides. I remember you once posted a video here for critique, and all I could think of is that you might need a nice shirt :-P well this guitar gives you an edgy stage look. It suits you very well. And it sounds awesome!

Yea why is it blue, is it the wood or the finish?

Thank you guys! I gave up a bit of technique for more musicality. It's ironic that the faster and cleaner you become the more robotic it sounds. It was a pretty important discovery for me. Thanks again.

Yohan, it's the finish. It's really a blanca.
