Stepping stones for Arpeggios

I think it is important to take gradual steps when practicing technique. Big long chord progression can end in the hands becoming so tired that it becomes difficult to focus on musicality and remaining relaxed. Here is a basic progression that i made up for practicing arpeggios. It is not to long or hard on the left hand so you can concentrate.I thought this may help some people.

Another thing i realized a while ago was that i was always practicing and hearing arpeggios following a base note. for example

--------------
--------------
-----------0----
--------2-----2--
-----2-----------2
--0------------------- Base note

For this study i start the arpeggio first, prior to the base note. This has an interesting effect on the ear and can really help in developing your understanding of musicality and phrasing, whilst developing technique.

It is common to hold a chord and play an arp over it. Try playing the arpeggio first then listen and hold onto the base note until the next chords base note is played. This makes you play the arpeggio of the next chord while the base note of the previous chord is still ringing. I am not very good at explaining this...Lol anyway here it is. Play it SLOWLY...

I always find that is the case. and the thought of that always puts me off!

ill give these a go.

ps. did you know there is a TAB button on the "new post box" that allows you to get the tab written out?? saves you having to write all those dashes etc

yeah, when I asked my teacher for some other arpg exercise with some more left hand fingering stuff, he actually said when you are practicing arpgs do something simple with the left hand so all your focus can be on getting the right hand movement right..

kris... on the tabs that you put out...
the first chord is
0
0
0
2
2
0

and the other is

0
0
2
0
4
2

so in the case the 2 on the low E (on the 2nd chord) actually belongs the chord prior to it?

yea,

The progression is
00000
00023
02000
20024
24x02
023x0 Then back the same way.

I need to work the tab application out.

I like your idea of using shorter chord progressions to ease up to longer ones, that's a great way of taking a basic concept and adapting it in a way that works for you
