RIP Robin Totton

Flamenco lost another aficionado last week with the passing of Robin Totton. He wrote his book " Song of the Outcasts" when he discovered there was not a decent beginners guide to flamenco and spent his whole retirement researching and enjoying the art. The book comes with a CD, which he recorded especially to demnstrate the various palos. He was in his his eighties but his age never stopped him enjoying his life to the full, wine women and deep song being his favourite past times. When we met I was entertained non stop with stories of his forrays into the world of flamenco and was very sad to hear he is no longer with us. RIP Robin.

He was a character for sure, and I am also sad to hear of his passing. Thankfully he enjoyed a long and full life. I recall more than one spirited discussion with him in Jerez, and his stamina for late nights in the peñas.

Sad news, indeed.

I rate his book as the single best one-stop resource for beginners looking to get started on a serious understanding of the art. Hopefully it'll be kept in print.

Very sad passing. I'm extremely grateful that people on another forum recommended his book.

He will be missed. I often ran into him in Jerez, I wondered why he wasn't around this year. A fine fellow. I can picture him having a copa with Fernando Terremoto in the great bodega in the sky.

Ole, Robin!

i only just heard the news, thank you Vytas. Robin took me under his wing in Jerez and was a charming and informative host full of tips for who to watch, and I will miss him and Jerez won't be the same without him.

Here is a photo of Robin (right) with me, Moraito and Melchor in London some years back.
