Gideon Weigert flamenco guitars
Hello!
Has anyone on this forum come across or had any experience with flamenco guitars from Gideon Weigert (luthier based in Israel)?
I'm keeping an eye open for an affordable, handmade (just the one - and the same - pair of hands throughout the process) flamenco guitar and he seems to offer this. However, I have not come across any good quality sound samples or reviews of his guitars.
Any info would be much appreciated.
I would like to echo what many others have said in their posts - this is a great forum - I officially joined today, but I have been checking out many of the posts for a few weeks now. I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!

In terms of luthiers singlehandedly completing their guitars, we have a few remarkable artists here on the forum. If you use English pounds against our poorest currency ($) our such finest (Stephen Faulk, Tom Blackshear, Peter Tsiorba) will be bought by spare change jingling in your pockets (Anders Eliasson and John Ray are in Spain, Euro currency applies there).

Hello GJ - thanks for the welcome! I'm afraid it'll be a little while before I am able to contribute on the music front - I made an attempt to get into flamenco about 6-7 years ago by trying to learn from books and videos and then VERY briefly with a fellow foro member by the name of Tomas Jimenez, but "work and life" got in the way before I got anywhere. I started again about 3 weeks ago, and this time I mean to make real progress!
As for the "spare change jingling in my pocket" the tax man here in the UK is very efficient - so there's very little of the jingly stuff to start with, and what's left over isn't then enough to cover the duty and taxes on goods imported from the "New World". With recent events, the £ has taken a "pounding" agains the $ and the Euro - but that could change - just have to stay positive!
By the way, thanks to you and everyone else who posted about the Andalusian guitars - you saved me from wasting my time and money on going to look at one of these guitars that recently came up for sale in London.
...and you are right, this foro is addictive - I should be tucked up in bed and fast asleep by now!

Are you looking at the Gideon Weigert on Ebay?
Looks to be a fine guitar but, in my very limited experience, he's the only luthier I've seen using a zero fret to set the string height rather than the more usual nut-only approach. I'm sure a more expert opinion will be forthcoming
There may also be hidden costs in the form of taxes/duties when importing from Israel which is something to be aware of and is worth investigating.
Stephen Eden and Kevin Richards are UK luthiers who regularly post on the foro. They've both posted photos of their work on this site - worth a search
Their guitars are in a similar or lower price range and are maybe worth considering.
My son has one of Kevin's blancas, which is a very fine instrument, with a negra in build at the moment.

Yes, it is rare to see a zero fret on anything outside of the electric and steel string guitar world. I wonder why it is not used more generally - so any inputs on this topic from the community are very welcome.

Although Israel sometimes gets lumped in with Europe, it does not enjoy that status where the tax man is concerned!
I will definitely look into Stephen's and Kevin's work - thank you for the heads up.

It is Budget Day today here in the UK - as in most previous budgets, the Chancellor is bound to increase tax and duty on alcohol - easy money and the debt mountain is huge! So, I'd better start saving now for those cervezas!
