Eduardo Niebla in London

Eduardo Niebla has a London date scheduled at the South Bank Centre on 12th March.

Has anyone here seen him perform before? I've booked a couple a tickets so I'll be going along to the gig anyway, but I'm just curious as I've not heard of him before.

I have not seen him play but know of him as he worked as a duo with Emilio Maya when they were living in London. Emilio returned to Spain but Eduardo stayed on and became immersed more in jazz guitar with flamenco fusion.

I think you will enjoy it. post a review afterwards its always more interesting, for me anyway, to know what foro members think than newspaper critics.

Thanks Kate,

I came across this documentary on YouTube which gives some insight.

I gather he's happily settled in Yorkshire

I'll let you know what the shows like. I'm just expecting nice music as opposed to anything more traditional.

Hi Sean,

I saw him a couple of times with Antonio Forcione.
Both excellent guitarists..virtuoso even.

They don't specialise in any genre, but play lots of stuff including their own compositions.

I've only ever seen Eduardo play Tarantas in concert, so I don't know how much he's into Flamenco.

cheers,

Ron

Hi guys

Just got back from the gig and really enjoyed it. He's a really great player. He'd be as comfortable sitting in a flamenco setting in Seviile one night and the next night playing hot club style jazz in Paris. But to be honest he doesn't adhere to any style but seems to pull from so many influences so seamlessly and creates such beautiful music.

I'd guess he ripped up the rule book a long time ago and doesn't want to work within the confines and limitations of any genre and style. Very much a free spirit. He even invited any musicians who'd like a chat to join him during the interval.

For the most part he had this north african vibe going on. The tablas really lend an exotic feel.

Funny you should mention Antonio Forcione Ron. I bumped into him last week. He was doing the lighting at the FiestaFlamenca in London.

All in all, a good night. I haven't heard a nylon strung Spanish guitar played so well outside of the usual classical or flamenco genres so it's pretty cool to see where you can take it.

If Eduardo happens to be passing through your town, go see him.
