Hey congrats Anothony. I wasn't worried. I knew you would pull it off well. What I really like is that your playing managed to actually silence the audience and shift their attention to you. You are the poo!

Congrats, Anthony. That would be great, just enjoy your self. After my first, I felt I played the worst in my life, but the dancers and the dance teacher all said wow, what a great performance I gave. Just shows you how much they know (or notice).

The problem I have when playing for a class is when they are not all together in compas. I just pick one to follow and go with that. The teacher usually breaks it off fast when it happens (didn't happen during a show though).

thanks guys!

skye, i'm downloading the video as i'm typing this but i've been warned not to put it up because not everybody is okay with it. too bad you dont get to see me dance.

flo, yeah, it's like a natural high during and after. now i'm addicted!

conrad, thanks for believing in me man! the first set, they all stopped to listen, it was so weird. the second set, there was one table with loud drunks. my ego thought it was annoying and rude. but it was sort of comforting because it felt like less pressure than dead silence.

guy, yeah i made a few mistakes but i asked around and nobody knew anything. i did lose compas for half a compas when i was playing cajon for a solea por bulerias.

the girls got really, really better with their palmas. in the beginning, i was like

thanks ricardo!

oh, i forgot to mention this story. so while i was drunk, i went to the bathroom to wash up and try to sober up. i went in and saw that the bathroom looked a bit unfamiliar. i thought it was strange so i looked back at the door and was scared to **** when i read, "LADIES." the dance teacher was in there when she heard me shout, "OH SH!T!"

i immediately ran out and hid in the men's room.

That is funny! After only one beer too!

I've done that before... The lack of urinals is the thing that kind of brings it home if nobody's in there. And that there may be a sofa, mirrors, lights potpouri(sp?) etc.

RE: first flamenco performance (in reply to at_leo_87

Hi all,

Thought I'd tell you about a performance last night, playing for some dance students - it wasn't my first performance, but I learnt a lesson - be prepared for anything!

It took place at a Spanish restaurant in West London. I was due to play one solo piece, and an Alegrías escobilla for the dancers. Everything else was to be to recorded music. But guess what - when they pressed the play button, the equipment didn't work. So I had to play everything they did with no notice. It was a case of "quick, now play this"!!

Several sets of sevillanas - that was fine. A tangos for a couple of the dancers - just played basic compas and some variations and that was OK. A bit more messy was a Alegrías that was much faster than I'm used to playing it. My playing would have been OK if I had been doing it as a solo , but there were quite a lot of specific bits of choreography which I would have followed had I seen the choreography before, so I didn't really do the dance justice.

Well everyone was just happy the show could go ahead, and the dancers and audience really enjoyed it, so no harm done, but phew..... I could have done without that internal panic

hey ailsa,
great work! that's amazing, all my hair would have fallen out from stress.

along with being prepared material wise, i find that it's a good idea to have things like nail file, extra strings, tuner, foot stool, guitar stand, etc. i even take with my a contact lens case, one side filled with lotion, the other with baby powder, so my left hand can stay dry, and my right hand can be a little slippery. works much better than vaseline!
