I am palnning to buy a flamenco guitar. my options are: one Raimundo 145, one second hand Manuel Rodriguez ff. The price is around 500-600 erous. In my country, about this price amount, I can order a hand made flamenco guitar as well. the luthier never have been in spain and self-teched the guitar making technic. I have tried that hand made guitar, the action is standard low and the sound was fine to me. Any advise to my choice? thanks for your opinion.

For that price I wouldn´t buy both guitars. Btw low action does not mean "low action on the fretboard", it should mean "low action on the soundboard at the bridge". If I can get a handmade flamenco for that price and it matches my conception, than I would buy it.

Thanks bernd! by far i didn't buy anyone. I know what the low action means(no altar que uno cigarillo). the problem of the handmade guitar is I can't buy in hand, i must pay inadvance, and after some days i will see what my guitar looks like. A friend of mine suggest me to buy a Camps guitar(model:primer, certificated by Manuel Granados). I can get it with 1000 euros. I have tried it and compared it with a Hermanos Sanchis 1f. I am just not satisfied that camp will buzz a litltle when capo on it. Does anyone tried this model? Any comment?

I have have publicated a review on the certified Camps Primera for the German magazine Akustik Gitarre. The test model had not the best action at bridge. Its sound was more into the Granada direction, so it´s not the Conde way as it is on H. Sanchís López. By my opinion the primera makes a good competition to S. L. 2F-05. The 1F is about 3 classes higher, so you must be unsatisfied with the Primera.
The action on S.L. guitars is not really good, too. The Primera had 9.5 mm at bridge which also the same with lots of S.L. guitars. The cigarette test will definitively fail. Some flamencas have a cuppled top where the action at bridge is very low and rises to the soundboard. Such instruments offer a better playability than the straight 9.5 mm action. One minus on the tested Primera was the plastic material of sattle & bridge inlay but Camps told me it normally comes with bones. The sound was very crispy and muy flamenco. Honestly, I never cared for either Raimundo or Manuel Rodriguez...
This may appear strange, but I don't care, I wish I had the help when I was starting.
Luthier made is the way to go...for many reasons.
There is a lutheir in Spain by name of Juan Montes Rodriguez whos instruments are available at a fine price.
I wanted to research and get some info of course as I know nothing of this luthier, so I contacted a past buyer. He happened to be a serious player living in Australia.
He just received a commissioned Flamenco from Ramirez and owns also a Conde and now this one by Rodriguez, with traditional pegs.
He converted the pegs to 4-1 ratio as he found them difficult to tune.
Standard machines, the model runs only around $1000 USD.
He ships world wide....
The seller is very knowledgeable and nice. A private dealer out of Florida who travels to Spain to find unknown luthiers there to peddle abroad.
Seems very honest and genuine. I would feel safe dealing with him. Have purchased from him in the past.
Anyway, the guy in Australia says," it plays better than his Ramirez, especially at the price!!" He had nothing at all negative to say...nothing but praise. He compared it sound to his Conde, and said all materials used were very good.
also as to the construction or imperfections when I asked he adi it was all really fine with no flaws to speak of. Some minor superficial imperfections, but nothing structural or in any way grave.

I liked the pegs myself... and would replace them with 4-1 ratio mechanical pegs. But that is me. The model with the machine tuners is less expensive.

Hi loop,
the editorial office phoned to ask me for writing a review about a flamenca negra made by a dutch luthier. I did and so the next order came for the primera. For classical guitars they have staff. But the interest of the readership to flamenco is beyond 5%. Because of this small percentage there is very less to do for me.
Yes, the Primera is worth its 1000 € but I really expect bone instead of plastic as mentioned above.

yes hes a great guy, Omar. I bought a Fumero off him and he was fantastic to do business with. He also dables in luthiery too so he has a genuine passion for guitars and flamenco, not just a salesman as such. I dont know anything about this guitar in particular but as far as purchasing a guitar through Omar i would have 100% confidence in his integrity as a person.

I bought a PDL Madagascar Rosewood from Omar in Florida met him through Ebay. He is a great person who really wants you to be happy with whatever you buy. He will work with you and is able to get you just about anything you want, and delivers worldwide. Beutiful person to do business with.

Hi, If you can get a hand-made and well-made (not always the same) flamenco for that price and it is what you like, I would recommend it against either the MR or Raimundo. The FF is not worth the price IMO, and Raimundos sound very antiseptic to me, like a lot of high-volume produced guitars--heavy and lacquered too much. I've played 2 Raimundos 145 and one of the FFs. They just couldn't compare to some of the excellent hand-made guitars.

Hi. I played one of the Juan Montes that Omar sells about two years ago. It was a blanca with the ratio pegs. It was a decent guitar for the price-- well made and light, easy to play. And he was a very professional and amendable guitar dealer to communicate with. He also offers a return policy on the guitars if you don't like it.
