I used to go to blues jam session years ago and one guy used to get up with this really crap Les Paul copy but he played brilliantly. Another silver-spoon kid used to turn up with a Gibson Les Paul Custom and couldn't play jack-Sh**. LOL. I guess with some guitar you have to earn your right to play them.

one of the best guitarists i ever knew played a crappy no name electric guitar with rusty gauge 13 acoustic strings through a no name amp and blew all the other spoiled kids with gibsons and mesa boogies away. he had a love for the music that the other kids just plain did not. too bad he's a washed up bum now... maybe not upgrading did him in. lol.

His name isn't Sea Sick Steve is it? LOL. Sea Sick only has one or two strings but he sure belts out a hefty tune.

My wife & I watched that clip 3 times now.
That down stoke with the thumb is my problem because my nail gets STUCK. Is that normal!?!?! You do triplet rasguaedos using that. Did it just come with practice? and did your thumb nail also bother you on triplet rasgueado down stroke?

i had the same exact problem in the beginning. it used to get stuck on everything!
have a look at your thumb nail. the shape is very important and it might be longer than you need it to be as well. my nails are not in the best shape so i'll just google an image.
you want your thumb nail to be ramped somewhat like that. that way, the strings won't snag under the playing side. and it's cool because if you want more nail sound, angle your hand to be near perpendicular to the strings, for more flesh, go more parallel.
another thing to consider is how relaxed your thumb is. with most techniques involving the thumb, i'd say the power comes from the rotation of the wrist.

yeah i now that feeling, i have been playing electric guitar for a long time now, and for over 15 years i always owned a cheap one. a few years back i had money and owned a lot of guitars, some very nice. the only nice one i kept, was a joe satriani signature edition ibanez, a real pleasure of a guitar to play. today i sold it and bought a 3F, i will have it in my hands in a couple of weeks

Nah, this has been an ornament in my life for too long--been wanting to sell it for years (I have another big box jazz guitar); I'm not interested in leeping ornaments anymore. I have trouble enough funding my playing habits. Besides, guitars should be played.
