RE: Missed it! (in reply to Kate

For some reason, that reminds me..there is some guy here in the United States who has raised this family of Grizzly bears. Grizzlies are among the largest of all land predators, and he raised two of them, a 1000+ lb boy and a girl slightly smaller. When he got them, they were the size of medium dogs, and now they are incredibly large. He wrestles with them, plays with them, trains them, and repeatedly sticks his head in their mouths. They had videotape of him when they were small and he did the same things, curiously, he put his head in their mouths a lot then too. He still seems to do it every few minutes. He says they are very intelligent, and spends 12 hours a day with them, saying the key is constant interaction. It is amazng to see this man roll around with these enormous creates. They seem to really think they are of the same species and quite gentle and cognizant of his weakness. Yet, I still think eventually he's going to get killed... Only in America!

Kate,

I've said it before. I have a contact for you to set up a West Coast tour. They are planning a big event (big for us) in 2005.

48.... a full life but hey, I didn't make Oregon!

I rarely embellish in print, only in conversation for laughs. One day, I'll might regale you with tales of pygmies in the Congo, getting bitten by a mystery flesh-eater in Rio or falling out with the mafia in Moscow. All true, with embellishments (of course), and lots of laughs.

Dancing bears are a long tradition amongst the Eastern European Gypsies. Obviously its banned now, but dont see any difference between that and what this guy is doing really.

When Lee Miller, the American photographer and model for Man Ray, was covering the second world war as a photographer she went in search a Gypsy family who kept a bear that they said could cure a bad back. There is an amazing photo of her being walked over by the bear. Though I always thought that some-one should have told Lee it may have been her kidneys hurting from all the whisky and nothing to do with her spine at all.

Kate,
that's interesting, the dancing bears thing! Although you know that grizzly bears, well, they're very large and mean. I wonder what will happen when they reach sexual maturity, if they'll still be tame with him or if they'll pull a Siegfriend and Roy thing.

Ok scuse my ignorace but what happened to Siegfriend and Roy ? They were magicians who made tigers and lephants disappear no?

Curiously I was driving around the circumvalación of Granada this morning and saw three elephants !!! Ok they were with a circus, tethered up on the wasteland but it was still strange to see.

Kate, one of them was mauled by one of their white tigers. I can't remember which one it was (I don't know which one is Siegfreid and which is Roy, it was the guy with the dark hair). One of the white tigers in their show attacked him during a performance in Las Vegas. It bit down on his neck in such a manner as to cause him to have a stroke. Only recently has he been seen publicly. He now has the usual physical problems that recovering stroke victims suffer from (speech impairment, motor disfunction etc.).

Bad kitty! Bad kitty!

Yes, Bad Kitty, indeed! I don't know how humans and bears bond but these bears are still adolescents. From what I have heard, when animals reach maturity they become rather anti-human! Unless they are tamed, domesticated animals such as dogs or cows. So I hope that this nice man doesn't get in trouble with his bears. Bears are one of those creatures that, in person, are so awesome, huge and ferocious and powerful. The polar bear exhibit at the San Diego zoo is just incredible, you have this giant white monster swimming adn cavorting in a pool and playing with his toys, only inches away from you. Bears are strange, having elements of man and dog in their physique and movements! But I heard that elephants are actually the most dangerous of all "kept" creatures, and they kill several handlers a year, because of a somewhat capricious nature and their incredible size!

That's a bit like the sequal to 'Jaws', about the giant clam that terrorises the seas, 'Gums'
