Barbero plans, the GAL, and what a h...

I recently bought the plans for a M.Barbero '51 blanca (carlos montoya, sabicas etc). These were drawn by Bruné so I know that the originals are dead on balls accurate. for the plans he used a modified paint thickness gauge and i know it resolves down to .01 mm for thickness (more accurate than a hacklinger).

when the plans arrived I thought the guitar looked a little small. I measured the GAL scale at the top of the page and it was correct, only problem was, the scale bruné drew on the plan wasn't. It appeared to be 1/8" of an inch off. this is a problem. I know Bruné drew the plans correctly. I just got sold a plan that isn't to scale.

Having worked for Kinko's/Fedex Office for 3 years, being a photoshop and adobe products pro and graphic designer I know how to print, and size and do all that stuff correctly.

Here's the question, Have any of you ever had to deal with this? Is this 1/8" shrinkage still within acceptable tolerances to build by? will it throw off everything?

You should watch the Seinfeld episode about George's "shrinkage".

Call GAL up and ask them about it. Measure the scale length on the plan and see if it's what it's supposed to be.

George:
Jerry tell her my guitar is bigger than that, it's just that on the plans it's drawn wrong. tell her string length changes with bad xeroxing.

Jerry:
Sorry George you're on your own.

George:
Jerry, Jerry, Jeeeeerry......

There's usually a disclaimer on plans such as these.
The dimensions quoted will be correct, but the actual paper plan may not be.
Its the same with all plans I think.

disclaimer or not, its easy to print to scale!

It's like going to the store and buying a pound of steak and only getting 14 ounces...what they sold you isnt a pound.

Or playing a bach cantata and changing a few notes, it is something but it isnt Bach anymore.

I bought a plan for a 51 barbero and got something that isn't that guitar. it's 1/8" inch shy in all directions. it is exactly not the same. lol

See what I'm saying? it's all good though, Tim is looking into it for me and of course I will probably end up scanning and resizing it

bought that plan about 2 years ago, just checked the 12" scale on both sheets, very close. I agree 1/8" seems too much, even with a disclaimer. If gal don't help you out I can make you a copy of my plan.

just bought the hacklinger gauge- which could of been calibrated a bit better. Sounds like the paint gauge is a much better option. Do you know the model and the modification made?

thanks for the offer, I'm talking with them thru email and they are working on it i guess...

I don't know the exact model of paint gauge but he said it for used cars to tell if they'd been repainted lol.

call him up, he'll be happy to talk at length about anything lol http://www.rebrune.com/contact/contact.html
