Stephen Faulk - Port Orford Cedar Bl...

I build this guitar to prototype Port Orford Cedar for back and sides wood. I'm very happy with it and it makes a terrific blanca. Hear for yourself in this video of Jason McGuire playing it.

It's a prototype and I'm offering it for 1100.00 less than my usual base price because it is a prototype in which I tried out a new type wood and I used a top with has two small, but structurally sound cosmetic flaws. I selected the top for it's properties as a soundboard not as just a pretty piece of wood.

In addition to making guitars with the usual woods we know, Spanish Cypress and Indian Rosewood etc. I have been making instruments with wood native to my area of Northern California and the West Coast such as Black Acacia, Myrtle, Monterery Cypress. These woods have rendered excellent guitars and have the added value of being sustainably harvested from agricultural salvage timber. In other words wood cut down to make way for development or trees which must be culled from farm lands and orchards due to size and age. The Port Orford Cedar grows on the Pacific Northwest Coast. I acquired the Port Orford in 2000 and had it resawn and stacked it to dry in my shop. This wood has been is properly aged and cared for. Now it's ready to build with and I won't hesitate to make classicals or blanca flamencas with this wood.

This guitar has a 650 mm scale and is built to a 1927 Santos Hernandez plantilla. The alternating white -black- white- green motif in the rosette design is taken from an old oud. It fits the character and understated beauty of the lines of the plantilla. It comes with Pegheds planetary pegs already installed and the finish is French polish. The bridge is Kingwood and the head plate veneer is Brazilian.

This guitar is a sweet little keeper at a good price and it's going to make the right person very happy. This guitar may not be for everyone, but if you like guitars a little more on the antiguo side this is a sincere little box. I'll build anything anyone wants, but I like building these Santos-ish guitars because they make me happy.

If you have any questions about this or any of my guitars please let me know.

Stephen

This fine thing is still looking for good home on the after Christmas doldrums market. I posted more pictures to my facebook group. Who's going to take her home to momma?

I'm willing to wheel and deal on this one if someone is interested. I was saving it for someone, but they can't come up with the money so I'm releasing back to being offered.

I want to sell this one soon so I'm willing to come down several hundred dollars if someone is serious. It's a fine guitar and for the money it's a really fine guitar.

Too bad, I was hoping you'd be stuck with it for a few more months.... : ) I like how it was super nice but a bit rough. I need a new job or to sell my house before I get a new guitar though. Two things that are difficult these days.

I'll make more. I'm making a Port Orford for Jason McGuire next. He would have taken this one but he needs a cutaway for a new musical project he's going to be doing in the near future. I'm building him a light guitar with a crazy nasty sound and an experimental top.

I have more Port Orford wood, if you ever want one.....
