I'm looking for a good shaver reamer combo, any advice?

looks like 30:1 is the average twist ratio but i need a solid peg shaver for flamenco pegs, and someone told me the adjustables were crap

Also those shavers come pre-adjusted.

try international violin--a company in the baltimore area. they have great equipment and their pegs are very good--and reasonably priced.

HemeolaMan: I noticed you are from Chicago. Whereabouts? I moved to Chicago 4.5 years ago. I live in the Ravenswood area.

Hola all,

I had to completely rebuild that pegshaver. Threads all gave out, had to drill and tap metal backing plates, overdrill, retap, and use larger screws everywhere.

For occasional use, I'd say it's okay. To seriously use, I'd invest in something better like a Herdim. What I'm going to buy...

Hi people,

I see the thread is a bit old - but - for what it's worth.......
Buy a reamer you like and if you can, a wooden shaver. Take the blades from the shaver. You then do a bit of fettling on the shaver with the reamer ie. put the reamer in so that you end up with perfectly matching tapers. Replace the blades carefully and do a test to check the fit. Violin makers have been doing this for years and maybe as Keith suggests, a company that caters for this might be a good starting point. Personally, I've always managed to get good fitting pegs with the described set-up. It's a bit of work to start, but once you have it, it's there for as long as and the only time you would need to take it apart is to do a bit of sharpening.

Hope this helps, cheers for now.
