thanks kozz. my current case is horrible. has only two latches that don't work well. the third one is a string. it's too big, smells like wooden death...

as for the diy devices, they're crude but they work as long as you have a good sponge. a good sponge will not drip, even when filled to capacity. a little caveman-ish but works in a pinch!

even more low tech. Damp or wet paper towel. When it dries out, get it wet again.

Works fine, based on hygrometer readings of all my guitar cases that have hygrometers.

I just have a bunch of old film canisters, you know the ones that rolls of film came in when people didnt have digital cameras lol.

toss a sponge in em, poke a few holes and wet the sponges. I have about three of them. one between the strings, two in the top near the headstock. I cover the ones at the top with a rag so they dont rattle around, but i suppose velcro would do the job too.

with this method, during a chicago winter with a windchill of -12F and 12% humidity, I can get my case up to 70%.

I have a humicase metro and I recommend it, but don't use the little pod over the soundhole. toss it up near the headstock.

honestly, why go and buy all those devices when you can get some sponges and probably go to a camera store and get the little cans free!!

Because you can put a paper towel or a sponge in a plastic container and call it the "GuitarCare Ultra Humi" and sell it for $25 a pop to guitar nerds and mugs and make a lot of money.

Armrests, Footrests...we need an ArseRest too methinks...

yes, and it's awesome! i can't believe how good of a case it is for the money. the guitar fits nice and snug, the latches are nice and firm, the blue velvet interior is really nice looking, it's a relatively light case, easy to carry, it's a really nice looking case and i feel pretty confident that my guitar will be kept safe and humidified.

i don't get how it's only $80. the humidifying system on it's own would cost $50. looking at the case, it looks like a $2000+ guitar should be in there.

btw, the little humidifier pods are basically small sponges in fancy looking plastic cases. i have no idea what's in the humidifying solution, it seriously could be tap water. the case does come with a hygrometer which is cool. there's a little built slot for everything.

i'm still waiting for my case cover. i already got a teeny cut in the case somehow which is bugging the crap out of me.

Huh?

Its like the function of the case isn't it....keeping the scratches from the guitar, or do you want a nice yellow fluorecent raincover for the case

haha, yeah. i bought a case to protect the guitar, and then i buy another case to protect the case. lol. the only reason i bought the case cover is so that i can carry it like a backpack around. but now that i see how nice the case it, i just want to keep it in mint condition!

bumping an old thread.... I think perhaps I ought to at least monitor humidity, but reading old threads and reviews it seems hygrometer's are not all equal in accuracy. Can anyone recommend a reliable one pls?

My planet waves hygrometer is usually within 2-3% points or better on accuracy.

also I live in an old house with some damp problems (I have just been up on the overhanging eaves trying to bodge up a cracked gutter), and thought it was worth checking out, at least for peace of mind.
