Practice thingy

I love the idea of working on technique at work, whilst watching TV, sitting on the toilet, etc, and this: http://www.letechnique.com/How_To_Use/how_to_use.html
looks like an awesome device, but it's a pretty hefty outlay if it turns out to be useless.

Has anyone got any experience of this or similar?

It has no soundport so, it is of no value for me

Funny how difficult it is to keep threads on subject these days. You guys are so funny all the time.

(The smilies are there in order for you to not call me a grumpy old far*)

Kubase, When I worked in a guitar shop in Granada we had something like that for sale. I found it worthless. Put a piece of foam or whatever underneat the strings close to the bridge and play while you watch some boring TV like Reading - Hartlepool 0 - 0. Its a good way of building up finger muscles.

No! For goodness sake don't Pim, or Anders will have a nervous breakdown!

Anders, was my comment a joke or what?
OK, tell me what would you rest your arm on when playing that thing?

Or do you just suspend it in mid air?

Christ, that's what these taller guys are complaining about just playing a normal guitar!

Kubase, Personally I don't believe in "mindless" practise.
I don't think you get muscle memory or anything from it.

Only alert practise, listening to everything...tone, rhythm, note formation, phrasing etc has any value IMO.

Practising like Anders says, with a sponge under the strings is good for some things, but only to keep the noise level down to avoid disturbing others.
You've always got to concentrate IMO.

My buddy from Silver Spring invented this. My idea was the plastic piece so you can do golpes and rumba and stuff. I got a speeding ticket using this thing in the car, so I dont' use it anymore.

But it was fun to use to learn strumming things to what I was listening to in the car. Nothing beats practicing on your own guitar though.

Thanks for the replies. I understand there is no substitute for actually playing, but would have thought using one of these things would be of some use at the office, etc.

I think I'll be cheap, build my own and see how it goes.

Jingle had a mini practise guitar made, just a head and 4 or 5 frets and a little body to put the bridge onto.

It didn't tune up properly at all but you could practise left and right hand exercises. He said he used it on planes and stuff and it made no or not much sound so you wouldn't annoy anyone!

maybe Pimientito has a pic or something? (did you post this up on the foro before? did Jingle have Steven Hill make one and give it to Paco or something?)

Well one of those would be perfect, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be cheap. I've had some aluminium plates made up at work, with lasered grooves for the strings. Once I've figured out how to attach and tension the strings I'll finish it and see how it goes.

Yeah Jingle has one made up for himself, another one that Steven made to give to Paco...and a third one that was made for Vicente Amigo with an inscription carved into the back. I gave that one to Vicente about 9 years ago after a concert.

Yeah...something like that

Any story involving Jingle and Vicente Amigo is obviously going to be more surreal! Anyway to cut a long story short, Vicente was very happy with his practice guitar too.
