Where's a good place to study in March? 
I may be coming upon a chance to travel to Spain for the second time in my life,
possibly this coming March. I am checking into available lessons/ teachers.

Is March a good time to show up in Jerez?


Will there be teachers available, or should I start booking well in advance?

Anytime is good to be in Jerez! But especially in the first two weeks of March when the festival is on.

Well, I dont know if the festival is the best time to study... but be there and you´ll learn.

Hi,

I had this dilemma last year but know a bit more this time round...

There are a few really established teachers, including El Carbonero (whose place is even on the 'flamenco route' in Jerez) - I rang to arrange to go there last year and he seemed surprised: just told me to turn up (I think lessons started at 11am). He teaches you a small bit individually and then you go off and practise in the room with the other learners (unless you're a girl - then you go outside as it's 'prettier'...) until he calls you back in. It was quite cheap - I think 15 euros an hour. Or he does one-to-ones. He's at http://guitarracarbonero.com/

I got some one-to-one lessons from Santiago Moreno too, and am going to go back to him this festival - his website is http://webs.ono.com/santiagomoreno/. I emailed him in advance to arrange meeting up as he goes off playing gigs quite a lot. I found him great - really pushed me and gave me so much to learn I still haven't got it all down, but was doable! Can't remember how much he charged - think it could have been 25 euros/hour.

They're the two I went to and they were both good in different ways; also didn't take too much organising in advance - it was all very laid back as you'd expect!

It's a shame they don't run guitar classes for the festival week like the dance classes, but if you get private lessons and go to a couple of gigs it's a great experience - that's why I'm going for the full 2 weeks this time! PM me if you fancy meeting up over there when we're both there,

Thanks, that was very helpful.

I went to elcarbonero's place once before (3yrs ago) to see about lessons, but I was quite intimidated by having to sit with all these young kids who could play circles around me. *_*

I'd much prefer the private lessons.
