I played in a flamenco dance class for the first time today. It was in Leeds and was run by Carla Soto.
There were two players there; a guitarist and a cajon-ist (if there is such a word). The guitarist was James Stephenson, who, like me, played a Kevin Richards blanca.
We played some simple Tangos, which was easy enough to pick up by ear, and some Bulerias, which was also simple enough (even for me!)
I wasn’t nervous, kept in compas, and really enjoyed the experience.
At the end I thanked Carla and James for allowing me to play.

Cool! I had my own first-time class appearance last week. I got to sit in on a rehearsal with the Conte de Loyo group in Dallas. They liked me asked me to come play again! Im thrilled that all of the practicing is finally paying off.

Awesome! I also accompanied my first class this week, Melinda Márquez's in New Haven. It was a lot of fun! Unlike Louis, I was pretty nervous and might have screwed up the compás a couple of times, but I had a good time anyway and the dancers seemed to enjoy my being there Definitely going again!
