new nail product

I just learned about a new nail hardener that seems to really work.
Avon "Nail Experts" Strong Results is the product name.

A friend of mine (who was the 5th place finalist in the Parkening competition this year) gets it from relatives in Rumania -- we have been unable to find the exact same product in the exact same bottle (clear ovoid bottle) with the exact same ingredients in the US.

It is an oil that is absorbed into the nail almost instantly. My friends nail are really thick and tough (he plays vigorous flamenco without anything on his nails, and practices 5+hours a day). He says his nails were thinner than mine when he started using the stuff, and within a week broken nails were no longer a problem. His nails are visibly definitely thicker and stronger than mine now.

There is an avon product of the same name out there (blue bottle). Its ingredients list as:
WATER/EAU
SD ALCOHOL 40-B (not in Rumanian product)
BUTYLENE GLYCOL
PARFUM/FRAGRANCE
TRIETHANOLAMINE
2-METHYLPROPANAL (not in Rumanian product)
CITRIC ACID
TARTARIC ACID
XANTHAN GUM
PANTHENOL
HYALURONIC ACID
HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN
DIAMOND POWDER

These ingredients overlap considerably with the Rumanian product (label is also in Russian, Polish, and Hungarian) but are not the same as the US product.
The Rumanian product costs $40 a 12 ml BOTTLE (Compared to $6 for the same volume US) and has

WATER
DENATURED ALCOHOL
BUTYLENE GLYCOL
ETHYL PARABEN*
METHYL PARABEN*
PROPYL PARABEN*
VITAMIN B5*
PARFUM/FRAGRANCE
TRIETHANOLAMINE
XANTHAN GUM
PANTHENOL
HYALURONIC ACID
HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN
DIAMOND POWDER
CITRIC ACID
TARTARIC ACID
ISOBUTROL*

(* = listed in the Rumanian product, but not the US)

The difference in price suggests it isn't the same stuff.

I am impressed with this guy's nails (as well as his playing), and I was REALLY impressed with the way the product absorbed into my nails within a few minutes, disappearing as though it had never been there. If it penetrates into the nails, it probably is doing something. He gave me a partial bottle and I will report on results here, but I'd like to hear from you guys. Anybody have experience with either product?

I've already suggested that in a previous topic. It worked for me as well. The other very effective serum is 'oriflame' Growth booster.. You may also try that. My nails were growing like crazy :) But at the same time I'd recommend to use both in periods, and not all the time. By now I don't use anything, and still don't have any nail problem..

Hey, Kevin. I have been playing gigs like crazy. THey're keeping me busy. Doing a performance of El Amor Brujo next week with Corazon Flamenco --with Marija Temo -- never met her but she seems like a pretty solid performer from her web presence.

Thanks, Beno. I'm glad to know someone else has had success. I've been using the Avon stuff for a week and I can see a difference already. Plus I've been able to stop using that Sally Hansen stuff -- it doesn't last more than a few hours of hard playing.

My rumanian friend said that the same combination worked for him too -- he stopped using oriflame bcz he didn't need it anymore, but he still uses the Avon. I've ordered some of the Avon that they sell in the US. Still don't know why the ingredients are slightly different, but the US product is one tenth the price of the Rumanian.

I bought some of this Avon stuff online, been using it for 3 weeks. They brag that you'll see improvement after 5 days but I think it's just hype.

I don't really notice anything different about either my nail strength or growth rate after 3 weeks.

I'm weaning myself cold turkey from years of acrylics, so my nails were pretty trashed.
