Missing ingredient in flamenco stew

I have tried everything. Threatened my son with a birthday present of a cajon, sent demo cds to three self identifying percussionists, bought my daughter in law a pair of castanets, accompanied local flamenco classes, made musical propositions to various dancers - who elect to dance to a tape or CD. All to no avail. I have even considered (briefly) playing to a drum machine. Has anyone tried adding electronic foot percussion (self generated) amplified with a contact mike as a means to help create/understand compas in the absence of a southern aspect of an Iberian pennisular? I am getting desperate and- turning 55 - the meter is running out.

Wait a year or so, and desperation may make place to resignation
(Actually, with 57 I'm still making progress. Slowly, but ...)
