I think the schedule atm is something like this then:
Cante August 17
Intermediate ends August 22
Beginners August 31
Well, that makes 3 challenges within 2 weeks.
The judging for the first will just barely be over before the entries for the second etc...
At this rate, I think we'll sicken ourselves of challenges.
I reckon we really need at least a month between the finish of one and the start of another.
Also if we still want to offer small prizes, we're gonna need a heck of a lot more donations than the few we've received so far. The pot's almost empty as it is with some $30 or so left.
I would suggest either 2 weeks before the cante one or 2 weeks after the beginners one. That gives room to breathe. Or cut out one falseta and make it one month. Or add a falseta and make it 3 months Possibilities are rich, just decide whatever works for you. Well you forgot the composition challenge actually...

Yeah, afraid I do agree with Ron, we need to rethink this. I'm willing to move the beginners one if that makes it easier, but that's still 2 challenges in the space of a week! Could the cante one be earlier? Do you guys need 2 months?
Ron the lucky intermediate have a prize, kindly donated by Todd! But the other challenges don't I think.
We just made new summer plans, if the Cante competition ends August 17 i will need to forfeit. Mother is not doing that well, and we will spend some time in Venice, Italy, with her -no guitar there, which i must somehow remedy, anyway.
Too bad, I was having so much fun improvising along that divine voice and could fancy a couple a nice flasetas.
I had asked Florian to make it for the end of September, while i am planning the Composition for December 15.
RE: Intermediate Challenge??? (in reply to gj Michelob)
I'm with Ron. Way too many challenges back to back.
If you guys move the cante challenge say to the end of September I may try and put something together also after winning the beginners challenge! HAHAHA... okay, maybe not!
I guess the way Ailsa is gonna go at it, it will be a crap shoot between me and Ailsa - may as well flip a coin...
Ok, how about the 10th or even the 3rd of August? That will still give us more than a month to practice while maintaining a good distance from the other challenges.
Let's do one falsetta, some compases, and another shorter falsetta. I hope I'm not biting more than I can swallow. I haven't really looked into the music that much to pick something out. The part at 2:16 sounds pretty cool. Sounds pretty tough too.

Im abroad at the moment and will be also the half of july so It can be a bit rushed challenge for me then. I can listen and even do some guitar playing but not consentrate like at home. Are we in a hurry with this one? If not then we could consider finishing after beginners. I dont even need more material and still it will be a challenge. There is also the cante accompaniment going on so if someone would like to do more solbul then it can be used for that challenge.

OK so now we have:
Intermediate 2nd August Beginners 31st August Composition 15 December
Flo can we put the cante challenge somewhere to space the dates out? I know it's a really difficult decision between giving people enough time and keeping the enthusiasm going.

Man it's so hard to sort these dates out with individual posts. Any chance we could have an MSN conversation? At a time when we are all awake? (one in USA, one in Australia, me in UK )

I'm always awake. msn is a good idea.
here's another suggestion i want to just throw out there. how about we start at the beginning of august and end at maybe the 7th of september?
intermediate challenge - we either start now and end august 17 OR start later and end september 14. i want to make sure that those who will be away during the summer will still be able to participate. opinions?
hey everyone, hope your summers have been exciting and fun so far!
i'll be away for the next couple of days but i thought i'd bring this thread back to life so we can start discussing and really get things going. i want to get a summer challenge started for us intermediates. it's been awhile since our last challenge.
assuming everyone will be okay with it, i'm going to start the challenge next monday, august 10. the deadline can be october 12.
that'll give us two months and will space it out the challenges quite a bit. we'll do two falsettas instead of one.
It will be challenging, that's for sure! Feels like being an athlete and raising the high-jump bar by 50%. Did I say athlete? I meant couch potato. I feel like shaping up though! I'll give this my best.

oh.. I totally missed this thread... If still possible I want to join as judge. I like both spb. I think Chicuelos is more advanced than Habichuelas falsetas.. I´m lookin forward for the playing!
Good choice, leo. Do you think we should play everything, including the compas sections like in the tab? Or just the falsetas?
let's do this:
chicuelo everything from beginning to 51 seconds. that includes a compas section so we wont have to pick our own anymore. that's page 1 until the end of the first line on page 3. then the pepe everything from 3:26 until the very end.
if you take a look at the tabs, after that compas section, chicuelo goes into an arpeggio part. but instead of continuing, we'll just go into pepe's arppeggio falsetta. im looking at the tabs right now and they look very similar.
i'll try to make a sound clip so we're clear on this and also to see if it fits groove wise.

Thx for the update, leo! Regarding on how to emphasize the weight of the different groups of judges (challengers, normal judges) i think a 25/75 relation would be good. That would mean to multiply the normal judges' results by 3, before adding them to the challengers judgments.

i agree. let's go with that.
i just made a clip combining the chicuelo and pepe parts together. i'll upload it in a bit.
