But then this site seems to be speedy too at the moment ...
Same database server - different database versions and the asp pages here are running in the uk so not efficient and prone to timeouts. I gave the hosters a nudge and they figured something out for both databases I think.
I will leave the test site running as it is and set up a monitoring program before switching over.

Look folks...
Simon has been working his ass off and spending hours and hours trying to fix the problems folk are always moaning about.
But if folk can't be bothered helping him test it out...
Can't you see, why shouldn't he just say "f*ck it !" and do something more rewarding than trying to solve IT problems in the evening, when he's already spent all day doing the same thing at work?
Give the man a break.
Upload ANY old crap at his test site and try the search and tabs in different formats etc
It will all be deleted anyway.
If you can't be arsed, then don't start complaining in a few months when you can't upload something or find the Forum too slow etc....and Simon hasn't got the spare time to work on it.

Things have changed since then - thanks for the feedback and let me know if it happens again. You could try the same upload again for me.
I think they have been rebooting all their servers since I pointed out some issues.

This is perhaps not the right thread but I've had another problem..
I got logged out after the update, and I forgot my password. I tried making the log-in send my account info to my e-mail. I got the message that said it was sent, but the mail never arrived. I tried it three times during the last days but have still not got any mail from the site. I finally found the password now... phew. Just thought I'd write something about it in case others might get locked out in a similar way. I'm using a yahoo mailbox and I'm receiving other e-mails fine.
BTW. Downloading content and browsing works well on the test site, and on this site too. I would say equally well, I think my ISP might be setting my limit, but things are generally much speedier than before the move/update.

Yep, this site is crap at sending emails but very hard to debug and kind of out of my hands I am afraid. Just ping me an email when it happens again. And check your junk mail folder.

Doit, I was uploading picture files to help test the new site--it's all going to be deleted at some point anyway. If you scroll through the pic you'll see my Siamese cat. He died about two weeks ago.

Had one just like it in Spain. Sorry about the cat.
Thanks Simon. He was 15 years old. After spending that much time with a pet it's pretty tough...

Yeah, my dog's getting on for his breed and it will wreck me when he goes, my one true companion. Still, 15 years is a good time to have with your cat - bless his heart.

I've noticed that the Web page in the browser seems to be wider than my 4:3 screen size though and I have to scroll horizontally to read the posts.
It will, in those threads with a wide photo - it's the same here, just that people have been loading big photos over the to test. Have another look and you'll see what I mean.
