Sounds real Flamenco? 
I read this a lot when someone is describing the sound of a great flamencop guitar, but what does this mean?

Good Gerundino's are earthy with a yearn in their voice, or was it a honey like texture?

Condes are Rolls Royce and simply, macho? I always hear a metalic bell like ringing in their sound.

Reyes are loud and brittle, but can sound bad like Paco Serrano's or very sweet like Vicente's (but I understand he plays a Cedar top guitar)

But what do we mean by 'sound real Flamenco'?

After all this time, you mean you don't know? Jeez!
For me, a flamenco guitar sounds "flamenco" when it sounds almost like a banjo, (a bit like Phil's down in Andalusia), know what I mean? Very little sustain, cejilla on III or even V, muy blanca

Who wrote this? I happen to love Paco Serrano's Reyes and I believe Amigo's is a spruce top.

I'm thinking of Paco's solo album, I find it hard to listen because of that brittle sound. Could be the recording engineer of course?
Pedro Maldonado (Ruiz) told me that Vicente always prefers Cedar top and that his Reyes is cedar?

Well if Maldonado said this then he probably heard it straight from Vicente since they are friends. I really like the sound of Amigo's Reyes too. Interesting. I always assumed that it was a spruce. Especially from pictures and video's. It looks more on the light colored side than cedar.

I may be wrong here, but personally I still maintain that it's the player that makes the guitar sound Flamenco. Not the instrument.
That is the gulf we have to cross IMO.
It's like Mike said..
Hold a really good Flamenco guitar close to your ear.
One say, belonging to Paco or Tomatito or Vincente.
And I bet you don't hear any good Flamenco.

Not to bring up you-know-who, again, but he bought a $500 student classical guitar and played a clip over at the classical guitar website. Wow, that sounded good. Sounded a lot better than $500.

Yip! I know what you mean, I'd have never thought it either, but it was only when he told me that it dawned on me, Vicente's guitar does have a different sound.

Doctors probably have the very best quality scalpels, scissors, and other surgical tools, but it doesn't mean that we should buy those for first aid! Probably their success on the operating table has as much to do for their 12 years of unpaid labor. Hey this guitar analogy is working even better than I thought.

Great story Richard, but I think guitars have temperements. My guitar plays crap when there is only me around. When a teacher played it, it suddenly began to behave itself and sounded great. The minute he had gone it went all uncooperative and started playing crap again. Do you think it might not like me ? (((-:

Aaron Green recently posted a story over on the Classical Corner forum about a guitar he built for a student of a friend. According to Aaron, it was a very fine flamenco, and the student was very excited to receive it only to be disappointed to find that he still sounded like a student.

Being a lowly student myself and having recently plunked down a deposit with Aaron, his story only confirmed my suspicion that the best I can hope for is while I may still sound like crap, at least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing it's really high quality sounding crap.

I asked Aaron if he could possibly build a guitar that plays itself, but apparently that's beyond his capabilities. Dang it.
