Hm, yes i know what you mean. But i am actually very happy about that article, because "deep feelings" is a very honest review IMO. It just says that it was moving. It doesnt pretend to be a doctoral PhD thesis on flamenco, with a complete historical lineage, while always repeating the words "cante, gitano and jondo". If its positive review its good, and if not it should change your way how you do flamenco anyway.

That's really very nice to have happen Flo, though once you get yourself to your goal in performing you won't need to even look at revues any more and let the pr reps do all of the selling and promoting of your work and conserquently the reading of those bitchen revues. Isn't that ironic??? Sounds great though, hope you get all that you want and eventually climb to the top of the ladder! You do work very hard and from what I can tell, you deserve it.
As for me it's another eventless tuesday night and nothing is going on. I like it that way, I want to take out the guitar and play it but I am so tired from my day, and I didn't sleep that well last night. It's that raw sensation where your head and brain feels like a beef steak that's rotting and starting to get, well, you get the idea!
And all the while I did get to play this early morning, and I enjoyed getting an early start, but if I had a revue like that in my hand, I would be very happy. Seems life neath the ozone layer needs a quick hodgepodge once in a while. And as for these days I will never know anything at all about what is the value of my guitar playing, except of course that I have long days, lots of needed work, and fatigue.
All in all you've got to love it, from any perspective of course, but thrills are only momentary, unless you really value what you do, and get your satisfaction in actually playing well, which is the norm that we all actually need. Seem's that true respect for what you do lies in the moment that it happens, yet not in hindsight, although the obsession with our image serves some kind of purpose and yet also becomes a dilution of the real experiance. And living for good revues can be a world of dreams and night mares.....
You derserve the all of the credit where credit is due Flo, but I wouldn't wish the obsession for fame and noteriety on anyone. You love the flamenco, and playing the guitar, and you know that love is where it's at.

Right, and, what do you care about what people, or critics and arts writers think, they are third party. I could go on and say that they are also parasites, because they make a living off of the experiance which is between you and your audience. Though they can sell alot of tickets and albums, though, they can really hurt business as well, but it's a crap shoot, how they will treat you, and the bottom line is that you don't need to live or die by somebody you have never even met, and if they interview you they are a total stranger, and it's also a gut wrenching to wait for the quick read that you don't need. So how you're percieved is a direct kind of relationship between your audience and those around you in your life who make it all work.
I can't say how worried I was that you would take this the wrong way, but when you stay away from all the unnecessary perception of your gift, you can really concentrate on the important things in your life and art. Good and positive and honest and uplifting influences in your life should be real and constant. And, the perception of the audience really counts on their connection with the music and their openness to recieve you and that is really the only variable that you need to watch out for because you shouldn't feel bad if a lot of jerks take you the wrong way, and that is when your closest people can really be of help, because nobody should go it alone. And finally when your alone reading something terrible, that hurts inside, and it really sucks doesn't it!
There are some performers who perform on sedatives, who know nothing about the performance, and don't read revues, look at articles, or even most of the records they make. It's very tightly controlled and unnecessary exposure can ruin their training or even their self perception which can really damage such a performer. We could all take a lesson from these kind of people. Though fame and exposure is sought after, when you realize this, you know that you really can't have your cake and eat it too. I don't know why I mentioned this except to say that it's a really deep and interesting life to perform, and though you may think you want it all, some day you just may not even. Oh well, those are my thoughts about the matter about performing for now. I need to eat supper and take my business off the computer if you know what I mean. It's been a long day, and as it is I am too tired to cook, much else play guitar, the real profit and enjoyment in all of this.
