Have you double checked that your UK visa will allow you to work in the UK?

EU citizens have no problem with this, but others (say from the US) might run up against paperwork problems, unless their Company in the US is relocating them to one of their offices in the UK.

I had the same problem in Spain in the early 70's.
I went for an interview and even got offered the job, but the Spanish Government refused to issue me with a work permit, since unemployment was running high in Spain at that time.

cheers,

Ron

I do not know your circumstances but if you are hoping to work and you only have a tourist or student visa, border control will refuse you entry if they think you are likely to look for work.

Your funds will be taken into account when they make that judgement.

thanks guys,

i would get a teaching job, i know there are companies that would hire me, like on line yet the salary dont seem so good, 22-25,000 pounds a year, i was hoping that i can find a job in the first 1-2 months being there, and then the school would help me with paper work, i have done this bewfore a lot!!! in other countrys , always a huge process.

ron they doint make it easy in Spain either hey!!! , nothings changed, i found one company that would allow me to teach , really hard yet for about 800-1000 euro a month i need to save even a little a month rather than lose money.

i figure if i got an online teaching job it, would be a ****ty school, i know in england teaching aint that easy!!! id be teaching music may kill my passion hehe, or i can convert them all to flamenco

I think that probably depends on what 'best' means - quickest, cheapest, most comfortable, see most sights along the way?

Because England and Scotland are joined you can fly or get a train direct. To get to Spain, Greece or France from England obviously you can fly. Or you can cross the English Channel by train (Eurostar goes through an undersea tunnel) or ferry, and then get a train from there to anywhere in Europe. I would think the costs of all these are available online, but I haven't tried. Cheapest flights are usually Easyjet, Ryanair, and some others like bmibaby and Monarch also have good deals. You have to shop around a bit tho to find the bargains.

I met a guitar student in Birmingham who said he couldn't find anyone to learn with or play with there. There are some dancers but I believe they do their classes to CD. That's just what I've been told tho - he might have got it mixed up.

Hate to disappoint you but a lot of people in England earn a lot less! It's not riches but unless you have dependents you could live comfortably on that.

There again depends on your definition of comfortable!

Went to the classical guitar centre in Birmingham yesterday. Thought I'd go and try some of their flamenco guitars. Never been there before, but was quite impressed . You can park outside, and have to ring on the door bell to get in. Chap said people come from all over to visit and buy. Tried out a J Ramirez f2, Manual Raimundo 160, conde EF5 and conde A28. Personally thought the Ramirez was the best.

Was left in a room to try them out , offered a cup of tea , a great hour spent on a rainy afternoon.

I am sure that would be a place to find out what's going on in the area, they do lessons as well.

Yes that's a good suggestion. As I said it was only one guy who told me that - said he felt pretty isolated up there, but perhaps he just hadn't met the right people yet.

eyup

i live very close to birmingham. you could try getting in touch with Ana Garcia, who holds regular flamenco dance classes http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/agmuk/regular.html

I used to work with one of her guitarists, Jamie, from TGCollective. He teaches flamenco (http://schoolofeverything.com/teacher/jamiefekete) & would definitely be able to point u in the right direction. Guitar "societies" are fairly thin on the ground, but there is one in sutton (about half an hr bus from aston) which is very good http://www.suttonacousticguitarclub.co.uk/

as for rents and things, £250-300 would be stretching it a little but it can be done, just dont expect the ritz!

also, the classical guitar centre that peghead48 mentioned is great (if a tad expensive IMO). Very friendly and willing to help put you in touch with the right people. Just be prepared to travel a bit as B'ham is more a collection of suburban towns rather than a big city in the "traditional" sense
