Guitar competitions in Spain
Hi, was just wondering if anyone here has ever braved any of the guitar competitions in Spain? I was just thinking about it and I thought that even though im sure i would have my butt whipped by 90% of the competitors, if I trained for a couple of years. I could have a chance at not being the worst there! Does anyone know whether guiris can enter these things! or what is expected in the competitions, or any training tips for it. (Even if i dont end up trying for it, it might still be good experience to do the traning as though I was going to enter!) cheers
Not the best website in the world, even if your Spanish is good its hard to work out what's going on. No description of the competition but it tells you how to enter. One of our foro members Estela is a judge for this festival.

thanks so much for the links, I realise It may seem like a crazy idea but I just thought it would be nice to have the rescources about the competitions here, so that if anyone is interested we would know what to expect and work out how to prepare things etc(even just theoretically)!

It depends.. I think I wouldnt have a chance .. my picado sucks too much. But check this out Tino (Dutch player) plays at the concurso National de arte flamenco en Cordoba. And his playing doesnt really shock me... So I would have at leat a chance to be uploaded on youtube.. haha.. At the same concurso played Antonio Rey and Santiago Lara.
So if you have enough time to practice. Give it a try. Its a good experience.
But I also heared about contests where they have a special subcategory: "best foreign guitarrist". IMO thats rasistic ****, but.. you now.. many people in flamenco are still thinking a little unmature... Who cares.

Seriously it would be great to get a few people together and go to a competition and jsut see what we can do!! But..ok, here's the real question, what would you play at a competiton? You don't want to go really simple and safe but then again you don't want to play something hard and be certain to make loads of mistakes.... I think i'd like to do a cante accompaniment comp or something to take the pressure off a bit(although that would still be rock hard!!) then its more about compas and getting the best out of the singer, its not as though you're the only one on stage in front of PDL and Tomatito and Gerardo or something...

I only know the videos from the certamen where Antonio Rey won with a Taranta, and the other guys were playing Bulerias, Solea and Granaina. I have no idea how they can compare these things. Starting with a Taranta or intro and then going to Buleria with it could be the best, since you can "cover" more aspects of guitar playing. But i have no idea, im not crazy enough to go there.
