Drying wood

Hi,

One and a half year ago I was building a flamenco guitar and had to stop because my daughter was born who needed the room I was using to build the guitar in.

I just had all the braces glued on the top and had to put it in my bedroom, now the top has warped a little bit and I wonder if it will "unwarp" if I bring it back to the same humidity when I glued it. And the second question is how long I should wait before I start working on the guitar. The wood has been in my house all the time but not in a dry room. Now I have a small unit (workshop) witch I can dehumidify and keep at +- 40% so I can start building as soon as the wood is adapted to the dry air.

I would wait a week with it in there. some would say a few hours or days. it's only freshly sawn timber that you need to wait some years for it properly dry out.

for the sound board it may be wise to un brace it and let it settle in to the new humidity and then re brace it so everything goes together with the same humitdy. This would be the safest option. but depends on how much it has warped really

Thanks for the advice, I thought I had to wait for 6 weeks so I can start builiding early.

The top did warp just a little from the 12th fret to the first harmonic bar. So I think I will wait a week and the see what happens.

ahh its not so bad there give a week for that you can glue in a extra reinforcement just above the upper harmonic bar this will stabalise this area even more. i had a look at your site i think i didnt see one already. i think a bit of spruce running across the grain of the sound board about 2mm thick 20mm wide and running from side to side will help stablelise this area and offer more fretboard support. you will find that wood that is already dry will react with the atmosphere in the same time the atmosphere changes. but just to be sure. its good to wait
