Do it in style

You're only meant to do this once, so do it in style.

It did not look like the bride liked "el cante" too keenly, did she? It was not much of wedding melody, neither romantic nor stately...... If they wnated style they should have gotten Florian on his white horse

Hi gj,

She sang a traditional gypsy wedding song called alboreá. I didn't notice anything in the bride's face except the pressure that most women are under in those circumstances: couldn't sleep a wink the night before, everyone from both sides of the family staring at you for hours, photos and videos that are going to be around even longer than you will... Not to mention the restrictions of a limited budget, uncomfortable shoes... And whatever you do, don't sweat!!!

I thought the bride looked beautiful but nervous! Both singers were fantastic, but El Cigala is an amazing looking guy

Did I tell you about my dance teacher in Spain? Last time I saw him, he was in a state of panic after a booking from an Irish family, asking him to organise the singing at a funeral and perform at the wake. He really had hard time getting his head round it.

wakes, are pretty common in some areas of ireland, especially in the country.
the only wake i ever attended was at my grandfathers, he was laid out in his bed in the house, we had a few drinks amd chatted about him.

in country wakes they usually have fiddle or cocenrtina playing and a bit of drink too.

Yeah, in some parts of Scotland too.
Generally involves drink and a punch up at the end (just as weddings do).

cheers,

Ron

ron,

ive seen a couple of them reality tv copper shows on sky1, one show was on aberdeen and crikes the capers the scots drinkers get up to.

are you in the city or in a quite area, id say there'd be some commotion in the city on sat night. my dad told me of a town in wales called barry as well, thats its known for fisticuff's on a sat nite.

speaking of punch ups at a wedding one of my mates told me about his sisters one a few years back. some guy was getting out of hand with the drink and a small guy just stepped up and tapped him on the collar, apparently the guy collapsed and the guy that tapped him took him outside.

the guy fitted a description of martial artist in limerick who does kyhsho-jitsu (vital point striking) and it turned out to be him, he said he did it cause he didnt want things getting out of hand. some people have nicknamed him "spock" cause he can knock you out with a tap or manipulation.

I wonder if this was a paid gig or if it was all family.

This is Pepe Luis Carmona's wedding. Isn't the bride gorgeous. If you look at the congregation you can see Jose Antonio Carmona and Pepe Habichuela. Definitely not a paid gig. Pepe and his wife have a bar cave in the Sacromonte, worth a visit if you are ever in Granada.

Hi Henry,

Naw...I live in a village outside Aberdeen.
I'm too old to go into the city at night now.

I used to live close to the city centre though about 30 years ago and it was really just like a small town.

There was a big student population then, with the Uni and the Art School and it was fun at the weekends but no trouble really.

The Oil Industy then changed everything and about doubled the population with workers from all over the UK and Europe.

cheers,

Ron

It's easy to do it in style when all your friendsandrelations are major musicians!

It's a nice bit of film. People's wedding movies are about the last thing I'd ever want to watch, but in cases like this I make an exception.

As for after the ceremony, there are some clips of the reception:

- In which Dieguito demonstrates the fine art of accessorizing for the gentlemen, and Josemi unfortunately loses his shirt:
(Jaco Abel and Paquete also accompanying)

- In which Niña Pastori sings with her friend Irene Molina who sports an exemplary hairdo for the ladies:
(matrimonial harmony demonstrated by Chaboli on cajón)
