Impovising por seguiriyas

Hello folks!
I've been asked to accompany a dance class (yikes) and for one part of the lesson the teacher has asked me to play a slow and soft seguiriyas in a lyrical fashion while they twirl their arms and hands..

.. now this thing goes on and on so I run out of material and have to resort to just arpeggiating the chords and noodle around them. Now I know seguiriyas is supposed to feel a bit dragging and repetitive, but at some point it gets too tiresome and you'll want stuff in between the default cadenzas.

When I noodle around freely I quickly loose the seguiriyas feel.
Does anyone have tips on chord progressions? or a handful of simple filler falsetas? Happy for any tips on how to fill time playing this palo.

try apagado, different rasgueados to create different feels
check out reinaldos7 on youtube as well he has some great filler falsetas that a pretty good.

Thanks for the tips Henry, I see he has lots of good stuff on his channel. Will check it out.

In case anyone else in the same sort of situation is reading this I'd like to recommend the seguiriyas material on Normans Site

The chord list comes in handy for finding some alternate chords but besides using different colorings or parallels I find myself a bit lost on how to think around chord progressions.. weird thing is i don't have as much trouble with other palos in the same key. Might be because the upbeat sounding F and C major chords that work in tangos and bulerias are more difficult to fit in with the heavy vibe of seguiriyas.

Wow! That's proper dancing! :-) Awesome vueltas, or whatever those pirouettes are called.

Thanks for reminding me about checking the compas series, I keep forgetting what a great source of material they are. The trouble I've had with them before is that the material on them has been pretty demanding (for me) in terms of transcribing and learning. Will check out the siguiriyas in the solo compas series, I'm sure there are great things to pick up.

It will take a while for me to assemble material and learn to play with the level of agility and variation that I would like, but I'm exited about all of this in a new way now that I'm working toward the practical goal of dance accompaniment.

I've heard about a recent study that shows how music makes sense to us through the same brain facilities we use to understand movement and to move our bodies, so what better way to get under the skin of playing flamenco guitar than to couple it intimately with the motions of a dancer.
