Hey!!
She's a strong player for sure, but I think she's gone her own way from a Classical background, so we can't really compare this to conventional Flamenco.

I was very impressed myself.

Remember she's playing this "live" in a "TV spot" situation!
How many of us could carry that off?

She's definitely got the hands! (and more! )

cheers,

Ron

(A touch more interesting than Julian Bream's one fingered "Rausgwaaaadou"! )

As cheesy as her antics are, and bad taste medleys, she actually has it together guitar wise. I mean, that bit of bulerias in the biginning is right on. She has got the fast rumba strum down while singing, and no classical guitarist I have seen does tremolo like that resting the thumb. And the other vid her picado had position is like most flamencos (bent fingers resting thumb etc).

I bet she would have been great to have juergas with!

There's another one. She's a classical guitarist, but she has an amazing sound & technique in my opinion.

I like how Charo dresses better.

Someone said that when Charo did a cuadro show in vegas, she hired a flamenco player to accompany the dancers from behind a curtain. Sounds so crazy I never believed it. But then I found out that Whitney Houston lip synced the national anthem at the super bowl, a performance I loved, so now I'm not sure of anything. Charo's great anyway.

It seems Charo is well known in the States.
I must admit, I'd never heard of her before, but it seems she's pretty famous.

Anyway, she's going on a World Tour, no doubt to counterbalance the World Tour of Joaquin Cortes.

(Will she be appearing stripped to the waist? )

Funny that none of the girls on the Forum have commented....like I would have thought this quite a sisterly thing to comment upon.

I'm just trying to imagine what Ailsa, Kate, Val, Jenny, Sara, Emma, Fitna etc are thinking when they watch this....?

Come on girls...

Spill da beans!!

cheers,

Ron

She is very well known, but more as a comdienne than a guitarist. She has done many many top TV shows, sometimes playing the guitar as well. Seeing as how we americans are so knowledgable in flamenco matters, it's no surprise that she has been voted best flamenco guitarist by the biggest guitar magazine in the US. Other notable winners of the title, which is selected by the readers, include Carlos Montoya and Ottmar Liebert. Paco Pena also won a few times as well as some guy named Paco de Lucia.
