It's merely an interesting and beautiful variation rather than a worrisome thing.....But imagine what sort of a pianist a 12-fingered person would be imagine what sort of a flamenco guitarist, if nothing else think of their typing skills.
Watch your back Vicente Amigo, baby Kamani Hubbard is comin' after ya.

that's funny that flamenco guitar is actually mentioned. imagine the stretches he could pull, the chords, the rasgueados, the tremolos! if anyone makes fun of him, that's one more knuckle per hand to punch with!

Seems a little premature to suggest that those extra digits will be useful. I doubt the child has extra muscles in its forearms so it's likely to have the equivalent of another ring finger with little to no independence. Depending on the location, it might not be very agile at all.

Dont start dreaming to early. Could be, but could also be that the finger just looks likeone but has no function. Poor child anyway... You know.. everybody who is different than the norm gets trouble with time....

There was an (african american) blues guitarist in the 20s who had 12 fingers ...and he had full independant use of each digit. Im trying to find his name but cant remember. I did see photos of his hands though and he had very long thumbs too.
I wouldnt be too quick to dismiss the fuctionality of the extra digit. 20 percent of people have a missing or extra forearm muscle anyway (eg palmaris longus). The finger looks fully developed, therefore it has tendons which therefore have a muscle attachment. If it were a pseudo digit then it would likely be less functional. There is plenty of anatomical variation between normal individuals anyway so there is no reason why an extra forearm muscle doesnt exist to serve the finger.

Thats great...i couldnt remember his name. Here is his hand. Actually it looks more like an appendage and probably was not fully funtional. This girl looks as if she has fully fuctional 6 digit hands though. I think they are beautiful. It will interestimg to see in a few years time if she does have independant use of those 6th fingers. (thats going to screw up a few tabs if she ever composes for guitar )

Imagine the arpeggios, ha-ha! The fingerstylist Pierre Bensusan somehow gets his little finger into arpeggios. In the opposite sense, Django is the one who surprises me the most!

i find it hilarious how the doctor come out with,
"imagine what sort of pianist the child would be, imagine what sort or flamenco guitarist the child would be"
oh, i just thought, can you imagine having him in your guitar calss, you say: well i can do the 5-finger rascagueo and he come back at you and says well i can do a 6-fingered rascagueo! how gutted would you be!
