(this is my one)

Am a bit obsessed with guitar at the moment, but am also a keen songwriter, poet/writer & rock climber (can be tricky trying to keep nails at a length that suits both climbing - short - and guitarplaying - long!)

whoa! sweet ride! how fast does it go? hp?
i have a friend who is trying to build a go kart with a manual transmission and a dirtbike engine. last time, i drove one of his go karts, i flipped over and got crushed. seems safety is not one of his concerns.
speaking of wheels, i love playing gran turismo 4 on ps2. don't have the money for real car racing at the moment.

Looks very nice Omega. I'm busy with publishing a little book and arranging a bit for brass. It still has everything to do with music, but it feels like hobby.

I (used to) like working on cars—mechanical work, body work, painting, welding. I am a capable shade tree mechanic and have not had to take any of my cars to a mechanic for a repair for about 15 years.

Flamenco Guitar music is my obsessive hobby, or my passion more appropriately, for the last 2 ½ years.
I teach, Fashion Law (at FIT) and now Fashion Business (at NYU), as an adjunct professor. It is really a hobby given how poorly compensated the positions are. As much as the subjects I teach are related to my profession, teaching is a completely different game and it requires passion, as any good hobby should . I enjoy writing about these subjects. 'Have published a few chapters recently, both in the UK and US and am working on a Fashion Business manual, I intend to complete while I teach thsis new course. I also started a novel which I never have time to work on, just like the CD i would like to record... one day... that is what hobbies do most successfully, they conjure a different world from the mondane routine of the ordinary, and make us feel -for that dedicated short time- extraordinary. But it is no more than a wonderful dream.

I'm trying to find time to do some digital artwork (see below) but after being in front of a computer all day I have some motivational issues at night...

Concerning musical instruments, I have a cello and a button accordion (stop laughing!!!). I'm a computer geek and proud of it, so I'm dabbling in programming, database management and systems analysis but currently not super-skilled at any of them.
Then there's photography. I just loves mah camera like a precious lil baby.
If I can live overseas one day as part of my new career move into the IT field, I'd like to make a new hobby out of international travel.
I used to enjoy working on cars, but working at a couple of Audi dealerships sucked every last smidgen of enjoyment out of being under the hood of modern cars. I love your car Omega, is that a Lotus Super 7? If I could have a car like that, I'd love to be a shadetree grease monkey again.

andresito: man that is some cool art work, i say paint in a basketball and send that shot off to EA Games for the new NBA 2010 (2009 already out), and make your millions!
Francisco: what is that picture in you post, it looks amazing, did you paint that? i can't stop looking at it, i keep seeing new things evrytime i do.
kovachian: my car isn't a Lotus super 7, but its based on the same concept, mine is a DAX Rush,
i think posts like this give us a good insite into the people on the forum, rather than knowing that we all have one common interest, we get to see whta other people do for a living etc

It's a tractor. The technique is HDR, or high dynamic range, and the airbrush effect is from the 'tonemapping' that is done during the technique. I double the tonemapping and increase the microcontrast as high as it will go to give it that airbrushed look. The technique starts with about 5 different exposures of the same image, then layers them all into a single 32 bit file. Blah, blah, snore...ZzZzZz. Anyway, it produces some really cool pics. I have a few more HDRs on my flickr account. There's some digital painting as well that I'm fairly proud of. Here's my photostream if you wanna check them out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/foo_foo/

Francisco- thanks for that link. That is an incredible photo effect! Just pretend for a minute that i dont know anything about photography. HDR is digital right....you start with an ordinary digital camera or a specialised one? How do you take 5 exposures of the same image? Do you take seperate exposures on a tripod or copy the image 5 times and manipulate it. The colour manipulation is photoshop right? Sorry to be technical but I love the effect you got...and how did you learn to do that?

Oftentimes, after a long and challenging practice session, the first thought that pops into my head is something along the lines of: “Boy, sure wish I woulda picked an easier hobby…”.
After working, sleeping, eating, keeping the girlfriend somewhat happy, and attending to all the other minor duties essential to keeping the ball of Normal Life rolling, there’s very little time left, and pretty much ALL of it is, currently, taken up in flamenco related matters. There’s just so, so much to learn about, and learn how to do, in the head and in the hands, and as much time as I spend on it, I'm still perpetually behind where I want and need to be…..
So, to answer the question “what other hobbies do you have”, I ain’t got none. There’s plenty of other stuff that I’d LIKE to be doing: learning to play a decent game of chess instead of lucking my way through to a win or a loss (usually a loss); getting out in the woods on more day-hikes; and that great American novel isn’t gonna write itself…..
I’m thinking (and hoping) that in a year or two, when I’ve got more of a solid foundation under my belt, I’ll be able to take a bit more of a relaxed and less time-consuming approach to flamenco, instead of continually busting my ass working away at fundamental compas/technique/dance-class stuff, always trying to keep up. Maybe then I’ll get a chance to develop those “other interests”….

philosophy, psychology, poetry, paleo-anthropology.... nah, i just play the guitar!
seriously tho', i have a pretty full on more or less live in job and a full on demanding high-maintenance hobby (guitar/flamenco) so i read a bit but that's about it....

Well, being Irish, my first love was trout ( and salmon) fishing. I even ended up as a qualified fishing instructor and still have a boat on Lough Corrib. However, moving to Andalucía knocked that on the head.
Also a great lover of the suicidal style of Irish and Isle of Man motor cycle racing, which is still celebrated on the public roads, surrounded by trees and houses (no room there for the sissies of the modern world championship on mickey mouse circuits with 100 metres of sand to fall on ). Retired with a 14 piece tibia, so am reduced to being aficionado of cante flamenco, blues and cooking the great seafood of Cádiz.

Ah, that reminds me of one of the other numerous unfulfilled hobbies I have, and the totally unused fly rod and reel I bought upwards of three years ago, sitting upstairs somewhere, catching dust……

I moved to a beach town ten years ago and my then 13 year old daughter expressed an interest in learning to surf. It's something that had always captured my imagination, but being a poor swimmer, I had given up on the idea. Her interest sparked action, and although she didn't stick with it, I have.
After spending years working in a flooring business and many hours sitting in a chair playing guitar, I wasn't in very good physical condition, so it was a great challenge at 40 years of age. It has become my favorite activity-much more so than playing music. There's a thrill and satisfaction to it that only the very best gigs can come close to for me. Those kinds of gigs are probably completely behind me now.
The 50 degree F water temp here doesn't help the hands much, but the rewards are worth it. Now I browse craigslist for surfboards, instead of e-bay for guitars. Pretty soon I'll have more boards than guitars. I'm working on a retirement plan that will allow lots of time for traveling, surfing, fishing, and playing music.
