Resin stain in soundboard

I've recently prepared another spruce soundboard for one of my next guitars. After having inlayed the rosette i've let it through the thickness sander to bring it down to the almost final thickness. During the sanding process appeared a resin stain on the outer side of the soundboard. Unfortunately there's no way of covering it. It is too far from the edge of the plantilla, so i would like to ask, if somebody has an idea how it could be removed or maybe bleached in order to make the soundboard still visually aceptable. The resin stain wasn't visible before the sanding, so i couldn't avoid it.

It is not a resin pocket, which would be really impossible to remove. It's more like a small part (like the size of a cent coin) of resin soaked wood.

Does anyone have experience with this problem?

I would hate to leave that soundboard unused as i have chosen it for it's highly resonant response.

I once had a piece of furniture with that.

I have heard of woodworkers using acetone to remove natural oils and resins before, so i tried it and it worked!!!

try it out, but, dont soak it otherwise you'll have to thickness it again to plane lol

Thanks for the hint. I've already tried with acetone and also with the iron and blotting paper but as you see on the picture the stain is still there.

then I would say rubbing alcohol.... paint thinner or mineral spirits....

or maybe goo gone. but I'd be careful with goo gone....

o.k. i've googled for it and yes...

Goo Gone, is probably like Goof Off. It's a Xylene based product. Xylene smells wonderful, but it's kind of unhealthy. It's a benzine derivative.

What about naptha?

Xylene is the main constituent of cellulose thinners, the same stuff you might use to thin your laquer

and i don't agree about the smell: its awful.
(thats the main reason i use french polish, the smell of alcohol is so nice)

Armando,

If you ever find the remedy, let me know. I have a top that has been sitting in my shop for over a year because of this same problem. The spot was not revealed until it was sanded down. I have never had this problem before. This top was Carpathian spruce. I normally use Englemann. Maybe it's a Carpathian spruce thing.

Anyway, Naptha and Goo Gone WILL NOT WORK. Save your money. I've already tried these.

A possible "solution" would be to use a wider binding and purfling strip. Most of this stain will be routed away. You may only end up with a small area after the guitar has been bound. Afterwards, you could tint your lacquer or use a darker French polish to help hide the stain so it won't stand out so much on a natural finish.

Yes, or maybe build a smaller guitar, A small Torres, A señorita classical or a feather light flamenca blanca for a kid.

Its very annoying when these things happen. Once on one of my guitars a resin spot the size of the spot on Armandos soundboard shoved up on the neck. Right wher you put you thumb when playing without a capo. Shaping the neck is one of the last thisngs I do and there were no signs that it would show up. Fortunately the client was very relaxed and said it didn´t matter.

Just finish it and sell it as a high-priced student model. Some guy, like me, would buy it and be happy as long as it sounds good.

If I get another guitar it will probably be a "second." Cosmetic flaws mean nothing to me. I'm reasonably certain that I'm not alone in this.

It appears like its right on the edge above the lower bout so cut the top on the line right inside the resin pocket, take the resin out and then reglue the top back on the line to where its nearly invisible, and lightly brace it inside for the support. You'll lose a little of the top this way but it seems that it might go back pretty even, and not be very noticeable.
