Flamenco/Turkish Music - Istanbul?

I am going to Turkey in June - Istanbul and around. Anything I should check out - music shops, bars, shows, etc? My wife is into the baile, any little shops with stuff? Should I try and pick-up an oud?

Thanks in advance. CS

You most go to Taksim, there are loads of bars and clubs with some remarkable musicians.
Plenty of instrument shops. I play the oud, it was actually my first instrument, and it is pretty difficult instrument to play, but full of soul. I'll tell you this if you do pick up an OUD you will where where the Alzapua comes from as well as that all to familiar flamenco tone.

Definately take the ferry and see the Bosphorus. Its like 1 dollar.

One thing to watch out for is anyone who asks you for the time, tell them to F off, because there about to harass you.

Have a safe trip, you picked a beautiful country to visit.

Don't miss Orient House...no flamenco, but fabulous Turkish musicians.

I wandered around Taksim too, but it was daunting...maybe a guy alone would do better.
