Russian Gig

A different slant on Florian's telling the gals to shut up!

We did a gig last night in a Russian Restaurant in Glasgow 'Cossachoc'
Dancer tried the floor the day before and was very pleased, nice and loud and not too slippy!
I asked about the sound system,..'No problem, the owner replied', we do a concert dinner every Sunday night and we have a good PA system.
So, we get there 15 mins before we're due on and you've guessed it, no PA. The owner says;
'sure we've got a system but I didn't know you wanted it set up? it's too late now, I'd have to drag it out the basement and it'll take too long'
A restaurant full of folk who've finished their food, now have a drink and are now sitting quiet expecting to be entertained, having come from God knows where to see;
The Flamingo.
I'd hoped to talk, tell them a bit about how flamenco came to be and explain the palos, but after the first few numbers, I gave up shouting. The other thing is that when you start to feel that the folk out there in the corners are straining to hear, it's difficult to avoid the urge to play louder and of course that puts a big strain on the hands.

Anyway, 1 hour show, great experience and from all accounts, it went well despite the problems.
We're booked in again at the end of May, this time the PA will be turned up loud.

Cheers
Jim.
