Guitar construction school, Cádiz

From December 2007, a new School of Guitar Construction opens its doors in Cádiz, Spain, where the construction of the Spanish guitar, both classical and flamenco, can be learned. Master guitarrero Rafael López Porras offers courses all year long. Previous experience is not necessary, but depending on the level of the students, either beginners or professionals who wish to specialize, the number of hours can be chosen.

1. Course of 80 hours. Consists of construction of the basic moulds, the complete guitar and its varnishing. There will be 10 hours of theory on basic elements of acoustics, mechanics, botany and history of the instrument. The price includes a complete set of wood of standard quality.

2. Course of 40 hours. Consists of construction of the basic moulds and the complete guitar, but without varnishing. There will be 5 hours of theory. Wood is not included.

3. Course of 25 hours. The most flexible of all, since due to the shortness of time, the student will choose those parts of the construction process which interest him/her, with or without classes of theory. Wood is not included.

The working hours of the workshop will be from 9h a 14h y de 17h a 20h, Monday to Friday. Classes can be adapted to this timetable.

So they will be able to build the jigs and molds + construct a guitar in 40 hours. WOW... I must be very slow. It takes me a LOT more time to just build the guitar.

Interesting course ideas Sean.
I run 3 intensive courses here in granada province, students take a minimum of 150 hrs if they have no experience. Are you working from scratch with materials, rosettes made or premade, necks. anyway, good luck. Will visit one day soon.

That sounds more like me

Sean to be honest, I´ll never build a guitar in 40 hours. I would loose control of what I do and would not have time to enjoy what I do. Result: More guitars of a poorer quality and a less interesting life. Bad idea.

These courses are by Rafael Lopez, not by me. I have no interest in constructing guitars.
