Gipsy kings...I know, I know it's not...

For all you who hate the GK's for what they ain't, how about enjoying them for what they is.

I found this video performance from Abby Road studio.

You can f-forward past the latest, new version of Bamboleo if you like.

There are 3 pieces on this same video.

The second piece is what caught my attention.

Is this a tango? It seems to be one, it's great whatever it is.

I'm just curious what some of you really good players think of this.

Thanks.

I don't feel qualified to answer this, but I have always liked the Gipsy Kings. This video of them is fantastic, thanks for the link. I don't have any input on the second piece other than to say that I agree, it IS great. At about 5:58, it sounded a like it could have been inspired by Cat Steven's 'Wild World' to my ears.

THanks for that.

The second tune is a pretty light and fluffy rumba, though it IS in Rondeña tuning. The palmas are like Tangos, but you can do the same palmas for both styles if you want. The rhythm guitarist ( the lefty Andre Reyes) is doing a clear rumba strum as the back up.

For the record, I have seen the Kings do real Tangos. Not bad at all, although you can consider them "camaroneros" since that is about the only material they interpret WHEN they do real flamenco.
