Alegrías is a cante before being a toque. It is part of the family of cantiñas, which´¨might¨ explain some of the differences you hear. Remember that great players such as Paco understand the cante and, for example, the difference between romeras and mirabrás, and so can make references to these cantes in their toque, since all cantiñas are compás de doce and major key.

There are two songs in the familiy of Cantiñas that go to the minor key: Rosas and Alegria de Cordoba. So Barrio La Vina is in the minor key, where as la barrosa is major.

So there is a connection, but I prefer to think of the type of falsetas Paco plays as variations sort of like what the dance accomp. plays during "silencio". Slow, not very rhythmic, but sad and melodic variations in the minor key. La barrosa is more like normal alegrias. The key has to do with singers range. Cantinas in C is low, E is more middle and used for dance a lot (Barrio la vina). Barrosa is in A major, best for a woman's high voice.

Maybe you mean "Alegrias lento" which is in minor, like Barrio la vina and Recuerdo a patino. Normal Alegrias is in major, and both songs change in the middle to major Alegrias, but end in minor. That gives a dark sound which you dont have in La Barrosa. Plus the speed is lower in lento parts.

edit: Ricardo was faster.
