Book/dvd/etc recommendations for newbie?

Can anyone recommend a good book/dvd/etc to get started learning flamenco? I haven't been able to find any teachers in my area. I've played pickstyle for years, and more recently started learning classical. I've always been a very rhythmic player, and I'm curious to explore flamenco.

I'd particularly like to learn how to execute rasgueados with good technique. Watching youtube videos only goes so far, and you rarely get to see what's happening on the palm-side of the hand. I'm still confused about how curled the fingers should be before they strike, and whether and where the nails should press into the thumb/palm to preload tension.

I would go DVD and get the Gerardo Nuñez Encuentro DVD for technique and inspiration and then maybe the Paco Serrano DVD (advertised here) for some more accessible falsettas.

I think a teacher is very important too, just to check you are not developing bad habits.

I second the recommendation of the Nunez DVD as a worthwhile investment for the long term.

If you want a more immediate lesson exclusively on rasgueado technique, I'd recommend this: http://www.flamenco-teacher.com/lps?lpv=1054

Ditto what others say about Gerardo Nuñez DVD, also the Paco Serrano DVD

Also Oscar Herrero Paso A Paso vids are not bad.... sometimes a bit analytical, but if you want to have things broken down and taken more slowly they might help. He has 9 volumes of Paso A Paso, 3 DVD's on technique!

If you look around you can often view preview clips of DVD's too, see if you like the style and presentation.

I'd recommend some skype lessons here and there if there's no teachers in your area. Some people here on the foro give them, Ricardo's the first to come to mind 'cus he's a monster.
