There's a popular recording of Camerón singing a very moving fandango accompanied by PDL. The last verse he sings "Que llores por mi querer", but the first verse he sings something else about a dream. Would somebody by chance have the lyrics to this?

As a side question for fun, what are some of the most moving flamenco letras you guys have heard?

John

That's my problem. It's on an album with various tracks and is only called "Fandangos". After he sings the first line a huge group in the audience screams "olé" at the same time, making the audience laugh a little. Pacos falseta is a tremolo.

If nobody knows I'll have to upload it shortly, maybe one of you will know the title.

Thank you for this description. Yes I knew this meaning, but never heared a letra which moved me... Its the voice which moves my feelings, not these very very good poetry like letras..
I think if you like good poetry which moves your feelings, you should read a good book instead listening to singers. These letras are like using smoke-signals to communicate, from one retarded mountain village to another one in comparison to "real good poetry" which is like communicateing with a satellit-cellphone from a spaceship to another universe... .... ..

You are too f*cking cool man. If I didn't already know what you look like I'd guess something like a grumpy old man

Seriously though, most of them are nonsense. I heard one that went "Don't look into the sun, you could turn brown". There are some good ones though as well about suffering and love. Let me go look for one... (don't wait up )

I love the poetry.

Absolutely. I didn't really start paying attention till fairly recently. How about this one?

Soy como el pajaro triste,
que de en rama en rama va
cantando su sufrimiento
porque no sabe llorar

Or this?

Al infierno que te vayas
yo me voy a ir contigo
porque yendo en tu compaña
llevo la gloria conmigo

That's beautiful. It's like how a child would put it, unfiltered by society nonsense. Just pure.

Here's a personal fave...

RE: I'll bet Ricardo will be the fir... (in reply to John O.

At first, if you cite a poem, no matter if you got it from a book, singer or the internet, you have to add the reference under it. Otherwise I dont trust you that it is a flamenco letra if you was able to post a really good one. By the way the ones which singers stole from real poets or sang some written by a real poet for their singign, dont count! And as I said, without reference its useless.

Ok and now some quotes:

quote:

If it were not important then they would sing onomatopeya all day. I really enjoy it.

onomatopeya? Im sure it is good poetry.

By the way. Poetry loose much of its quality if you translate it. It has only its most effectiveness in the lenguage of the original.

quote:

That reminds me of my grandfather. Walking in the fields just me and him. Him teaching me about herbs and plants that are edible if I ever got lost.

Very ,..very interesting, romantic story... ZZZZzzzzz....really.. *yaawwwn*

quote:

This is poetry of the uneducated(although some gypsies have their doctorates and excel in other fields as well)

I know some doctorates who did their to do a doctor's degree by watching apes over a period of 2 years and wrote down a hourly diary when and where they shi*tted or ate the louses of another ape.... Another one made murine drunken and watched their behaviour. The medicine Dr. is just a joke. They sumarise already explored things from books already during their sudying periods.. .. So there are really earned dctors degrees and joke ones. So a person with Dr. degree gets only my acceptance when I know what he did. Titles alone are nothing.

Sorry for argueing against the letra thing here. Thats no attack. I respect the people here, so please dont ake it bad. You are a nice guy Romerito. Im just negatively adjusted to flamenco "poetry".
By the way. Im in real not interested in any poems in any lenguage. And I never memorised just one sang letra or wanted it. No pop songs, childrens songs, flamenco letras, folksongs , whatever. Im a complete lyrics ignorant. I dont even memorised chrismas songs or preysongs in the church. I dont like all these texts. Dont know why, but its anchored deep inside of me. Im also not interested in Goete and underwrites.
You could help me very much if someone could explain me the clue of this mental diarrhea... I try but really cant find anything inside this which gives me something...

Doitsujin when I say things are funny or cool I mean it! I don't take any of these things personally and it's always great how you burst out with these extremely cynical thoughts, always makes me laugh out loud.

Ricardo, remember you telling me Cepero was just as accomplished as PDL? This is the very same album on which Cepero is only credited for the rumbas. Had I known this before I'd have most definitely thought differently. This track made me a fan of cante over 10 years ago. Fandango is my favorite of the cante jondo and I've never heard it accompanied better.

@ John

Nono.. I didnt feel offended. I wrote these lines coz I made jokes about some statemenst of Romerito. And they could be to harsh coz I dont know him good.

@Romerito
jepp Im completely with your opinion. I wrote that about Dr. coz I´ll become one of them. And I dont do research on the sexual behaviour of bucks or something like that. I could you tell some awesome stories about Dr. in psycology. THEY are really nuts! haha...
To the poetry.. I think I dont hate it. They just tell me nothing. They are just small text with broken lenguage false grammar and too complicated. Everybody could understand it different... Usually its inteligent to be able to explain something that everybody can understand when readin it fo the first time. So
Poetry is the opposite. And in shool I allways inerpetated peotry in a different way than the teacher. And I got bad marks coz of that ****. By the way,.. he was gay. That explains some of my past posts. .. I wanna understand and enjoy poems, but its not easy. At the moment I combine only stupid gay teachers who gives me bad marks with poems. Maybe someone can undersand me now.

By the way, these many misakes in my texts (like tis) depends on my damaged keyboard. Some keys dont work correctly and I dont wanna read all my stuff a second time after posting. I´ll buy a new one in near future.

NOTICE I said supposedly-because that is not my opinion, but eh opinion of some aficionados.

About Cepero, that is interesting, though I have not heard it before, but doesn't surprise me really. I think he is maybe no. 1 for me. He has a lot of great dynamics in the bulerias with Maria Vargas too. Of course that is not PDL, and you can hear his voice giving jaleos and encouragement "ole!, brilla!",etc. I think they got mixed up on that CD is because PDL DOES play two excellent solo pieces, and maybe joins in some rumbas and dance accomp., but I doubt it. Cepero is doing all the accomp, but they were on tour and hanging out a lot. If you notice, Cepero plays a couple of falsetas and little licks that PDL is famous for, so they were probably trading ideas. Perhaps who ever listen to the tapes and mastered the CD heard those licks and thought it was PDL.

There is series called "puro y jondo" DVD's, and is fairly recently recorded. Cepero is seen accompanying some folks in that vid, and he plays as good as ever. Nano de Jerez comes to mind, but I dont' own the series, only have seen it with friends. So you can still find him accompanying.

About PHD, I think J. Serrano and J. Greco were both awarded honorary PHD's for doing nothing.

Ricardo Do you like the poetry? Do you think it stands on its own or only in a flamenco context?

To translate it properly, you need to know some back ground. So context is important, but once you understand where it is coming from, it can relate to anyone I think, and be very deep and powerful. But taken at face value, some of it can seem silly. Same with even a cheesy pop tune on the radio, it really depends. A lyric can just be a nice rhyme to the singer or songwriter, but to someone else, it can hit home really hard where it hurts.
